Seriously underrated weapon. It gets over 450 AR, is really fast for an axe, stunlocks everything, has horizontal and vertical attacks and has absurd motion values for R2 attacks which boosts it's damage even further.

Is there any reason to not lighting infuse this other than no scaling?

Solid quality weapon. Roughly 460 ar with very powerful r2 attacks. Ignore everyone saying it's early game only

There appears to be an anomaly with the damage multiplier for the two-handed heavy attack. It hits much harder than the Bastard Sword two-handed heavy attack even though it has lower attack rating. Something worth noting.

is this a bad option for an enchanted infusion? I see it has a C scaling, while most other weapons have a B or an A scaling

I know there's probably better options but this is an underrated gem it got me through my SL1 build

Great starting weapon for early areas but later there are much better toys.

Butcher's knife is better in all ways except stat requirement if you're going to have 24+ strength go for that instead

Overall it's best pick of all starting weapons and worth using all the time up to NG+6. More damage and poise damage than Longsword allows you beat most enemies with ease and even stagger bosses. Club is also good for staggering but Battleaxe offers far more damage on quality build. Mace is more similiar in damage but Battleaxe has better moveset. While Bandit Knife has better crits and bleed when it comes simple hacking and slashing again Battleaxe performs far far better. Others are not even worth mentioning. Maybe dagger for fastest speed and using with weapon buffs but buffed Battleaxe is not that bad either. So yeah as far as starting weapons go this one is most versatile and powerful.
So if you for some strange reason want to stick with one weapon for the entire game pick Bandit and his Battleaxe. It also could drop from hollows in Firelink/Burg and you can of course get it from Andre so it's possible to use it right after Asylum even if you choose other starting class. Only downside is attack lag after missing a hit but if every attack connects you can chop chop chop quite fast with it.
