How to Get / Where to Find the Dragon King Greataxe

Notes:

  • Give to Frampt to receive 5000 souls.
  • Special: When held in two hands and a power attack is used (R2 or RT), it releases a shockwave in a 360 degree radius almost identical to the Wrath of the Gods miracle. Uses 50 durability.
  • The shockwave inflicts magic damage.
  • It's special R2 only gets buffed with Darkmoon Blade (Tested at 1.06 patch with 40 faith and Darkmoon Talisman)
  • Special: Gives +20 Magic and +20 Fire resist.
  • It's enchantable/buffable, like the Dragon Bone Fist and the Dragon Tooth.
  • Has no scaling in any stat, making the damage completely fixed.

Lore

  • The Dragon King Greataxe is part of a theme that connects the Everlasting Dragons to stone.

Why would the Gaping Dragon be carrying this? Gotta be some lore there, did he serve the Dragon King? Was he the Kings squire lol

Use it if you want to utilize it's special attack often. Otherwise don't bother since there are better Str weapons.

use this along with the silver serpent ring and mimic helm when farming the phalanx in painted world, you can Special R2 and kill 2/3 of them in one shot, sometimes all of them. super fast farming.

This gets outdamaged by the Demons' Great Machete at 40 strength, don't know about 34, but use the DMG over this unless you would rather trade the damage for the special attack and lower stamina consumption

Does the great ax max out at +5? Or can you upgrade it higher? I’m on my first ever play through and am still learning

I suppose the “scaling” on this comes from dragon roaring and then whomping a mother****er with it. If it did scale, and it were easier to time the dragon roar, folks would be all over this **** all the time.

The wiki says the r2 only gets buffed by Darkmoon Blade but I just tested it with magic weapon and the damage of the Wrath of Gods was increased

well the R2 is a monster for those little turtles in tight spots like sens and etc its op when invadivng ganks and they dont know your position then you take spot make ready for them then bang one more to crack the wallnuts.
The R2 really DOESNT know anything about blocking anyone in aoe will be effected...
id rather call this tight spot beast...truely

IMO the huge strength requirement puts this weapon in a strange position given the lack of scaling. If you have access to the Black Knight or Demon Greataxes, there's no point to this weapon other than the R2 gimmick. I guess the main selling point is the accessibility since it's a guaranteed drop.

The only thing that is bad about the dragon king great axe is the fact that it cannot scale with stuff just like every other dragon weapon.

I remember killing Artorias with only the two-handed attack. That took a lot of repair powder and humanity.

I like to use this, upgraded a few times, to level up in the painted world. Killing a bunch of enemies at once is nice.

                                • The minimum stat requirement to wield it is 34 Strength while two-handing, so use it at your own will if you don't mind two-handing it and you have weapon buffs for it.
