"Metal Greatshield. Used by the Knight Berenike, known for his heavy armour.
This plate of iron is heavily defensive but ultra heavy. Greatshields are very stable, and deflect attacks. However, one cannot parry, and instead bashes with the shield."
Acquired from:
- Drop: Tower Knights in Undead Parish, Sen's Fortress and the Painted World (respawns).
- Purchase: Crestfallen Merchant for 8000 souls.
Hints and Tips:
- Fabulously stable, but very heavy.
- Upgraded to Crystal +5 gives the shield 90 stability, making it the highest stability shield in the game, albeit with the downside of severely reduced and irreparable 30 durability.
- Inexpensive upgrades that mostly improve bashing damage.

Anyone know how much STR it takes to one-hand this alongside a Zweihander and the Catarina set?

This is a pretty amazing PVE item for people with high enough stamina and strength to use it, especially if you’re just trying to get through your game. Man sized enemies stun themselves against the shield, making them easy pickins and even some larger or boss sized enemies have a hard time getting much damage through if you find good times to let your stamina regen. The Black Iron Greatshield can be found pretty much right after you get the shield, in Anor Londo. Its basically the same shield, if you aren’t stopping at 30str, with some slight deficits made up for with a buffed fire defense, which means it’s even better in some situations. If you can make it through Sen’s, or the parish if you have godly luck with your drops, and enjoy a turtly style this should help you steamroll the rest of the game. Even though it didn’t really help with the fight it was funny to watch my dude get caught in The Bed of Chaos’ swiping attack and end up across the room mostly unharmed. It’s not perfect though and against some bosses like Sif you still need to learn how to roll because you’ll get spaced out and never get any attacks in. As for PVP you can try and make a tanky build that... oh sorry didn’t notice that you got backstabbed again.

If you want short-lived god mode, upgrade this to Crystal +5. 90 stability BAYBA
Don't know if anyone pointed it out already but to me they look awfully similar to Carthage greatshields in the movie "Gladiator"
