Vile Maggot is an Enemy in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered. Enemies are hostile creatures that respawn when players rest at a Bonfire or upon death. Special enemies that do not respawn are classified as Bosses, Mini Bosses or Invaders.

Vile Maggot Description

A clot of Vile Maggots will hatch once an Egg Carrier is killed. They are long and pale with sharp facial pincers, they resemble a real life "Grub".'

Drops

  • 18 Souls

Attacks

  • Jumping Attack, can be blocked.
  • Running Attack, can be blocked.

Strategy

These are creatures better just left alone as they are a hassle to deal with. They spit poisons at the player and lunge from a decent distance when gotten too close to. This can be lethal when there is more than one of them as the attack causes a approximate *1 sec* stunning before you can roll away. If you feel you MUST deal with them, it is recommended to be done at a distance or one at a time with melee.

was waiting for half an hours to be summoned for quelaag, got bored and read a sign left by another player to hit one of these two guys right before the boss fog door. i did and died seconds before getting summoned for the boss fight by another player to an army of these things.

      10/10 would never do again.

Chuck a Great Chaos Fireball at them. The initial blast will kill the egg-bearer and the lingering AoE will kill all of them instantly.

Is there some way to consistently hit them in melee? They're so small, my weapons swing over their heads a lot of the time, regardless if the terrain. The overhead swinging attacks are a bit more consistent, but also slow, and leave you vulnerable to being swarmed.

Good to see someone fixed the lore this is what happened when you let anyone edit a wiki take note Wikipedia

"- Vile Maggot is the ancestor of Hateful Maggot. - This lineage culminated in creatures like Headless Bloodletting Beast Headless Bloodletting Beast." Who the heck is entering nonsense like this on the wiki

These things are literally so easy to kill. Just one plain old ordinary Fire Ball from your pyromancy flame can kill groups of them. Their nuisance is so overtly exaggerated, it almost seems like people are treating these like Black Knights during their first playthrough.

I hate these things. I hate 'em so much. Not because they're annoying to deal with or anything, but because of how they move. So gross.
