Magic Weapon is a Sorcery in Dark Souls. To cast a sorcery, you must use a Catalyst or Special Weapons that can cast Sorceries

Sorcery for casters who wield swords. Magic augmentation: right weapon.
The power of the magic swordsmen of Vinheim is predicated upon this and Magic Shield. Many warriors learn sorcery just for this.

  • Weapon Buff
  • Duration: 60 seconds
  • Enhances the right-hand weapon with Magic Damage.
  • Weapon must be standard, crystal, or raw. Some Dragon and Unique weapons can be enchanted too (see Weapon Buffs).

Acquired From

Notes

  • Adds 0.8 x your Magic Adjustment stat (NOT Intelligence) magic damage to your weapon.

I've noticed something interesting in recent experiments, weapons like the Zweihander and Great Club create a sort of shockwave on heavy attacks. This counts as a hit but does no damage...unless you have the weapon buffed with something like Magic Weapon, in which case the shockwave gains the buff damage. It's an interesting way to squeeze a bit more damage out of your hits.

So recently trying to do a ceastus only run and I’ve witnessed something interesting. I got a +5 fire ceastus to fight O&S because Ornstein is weak to fire, but I did some testing and found out I deal more damage with a +10 standard ceastus and magic weapon, I don’t even have that many levels invested in any of the scaling stats and I’m using ollacile ivory catalyst, I’m intrigued as to how the damage is calculated between ascension and buffs cause by all right the fire ceastus should deal similar damage to the buffed standard ceastus

At 10 INT with a Sorcerers Catalyst you apply 87 damage to your main hand weapon, surpassing Charcoal Pine Resin.

Similar for players who used to grab Carthus Rogue on Dark Souls III who want that extra buff with minimal stat investment.
