Bastard Sword is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
This standard greatsword is normally wielded with two hands due to its great weight."
"Usually swung in large arcs and effective against multiple foes. Far from ideal when fighting in tight quarters.
How to Get / Where to Find the Bastard Sword
- Purchased from Blacksmith Andre (3,000 Souls).
Notes and Tips:
- Can be given to Kingseeker Frampt to receive 50 Souls.
- Available relatively early in the game, the Bastard Sword is one the fastest swinging swords of its class, and in PvE is proficient at stun-locking low-poise enemies.
- The R1 attack is a wide, low-level horizontal sword sweep that tends to drag along the ground. The R2 attack is a downward smash with good knockback and forward range.
- The sword's slowest and strongest attack is an R1-R2 combo; the player pivots around from the initial swing and brings the sword smashing down with their full force. This move has extremely high knockback, but is only effective against slow foes.
- When timed correctly, a leaping smash is also a very effective opener or finisher.

The story of this sword is pretty screwed up if you take the time to research into it

I was big into ultra greatswords as my first weapon of choice, but decided to try out Claymore for the quickness and moveset. Undeniably excellent, but I just didn't like the look. Bastard Sword is a beauty, though. Not as much range or as efficient of a moveset as the claymore, but does good damage and very good stun attacks with a reasonably fast R2 sideways slash.
Not the best sword in the game on any level, but looks great and definitely something to work with. I do miss having a proper stab attack, though.

The underappreciated baby brother of the Claymore, and my personal favorite weapon.
The Bastard Sword trades range and versatility for power, which isn't a bad thing, especially if you like to play quickly and aggressively, like me. It is to the Claymore what the Broadsword is to the Longsword. It's also my favorite sword design-wise; not cartoonishly oversized or colored like the Claymore or Broadsword, but not a basically untextured model like the Sunlight Straight Sword.
Only drawback is, it's kinda slow; once you reach NG++, bosses like Kalameet and the Four Kings which punish you for every second you're not dealing tremendous damage get really annoying.

My beloved.
In any game of the series, and even Elden Ring now, I always come back to this beauty.
It just feels solid and it looks great, the blade the hilt, everything about it is good.
While Baemore is great, and objectively has a better moveset and longer reach, the bastard is simply the sword of my heart, it was love at first sight.
Give it a shot skeleton you'll have fun.

Now this... THIS is a real weapon. +15 with 40 STR and 40 DEX gets you 540 AR! It's moveset makes it good for single targets and tightly packed crowds. It did not let me down at any point in my run.

I would use this instead of the claymore just for the name, it suits me well!

The raw upgrade is good for early mage build for pve(enchantable too). available early in the game and relatively cheap to wield(16s/10d). you are still going to invest 16 str for moonlight greatsword in the late game anyway.

This sword looks good with Knight Set and Broadsword in the offhand.

i don’t care much for this weapon in the other souls games, but i love it in this game. even if the claymore is better, the bastard’s one handed R2 just feels so powerful

So I've played through all the souls games multiple times and I can proudly say, I'm 100% part of the bastard sword cult. It's certainly not the best weapon in any of the games, but it's good in all of them. I'm having particularly good fun with it in my current playthrough of this game!

I have two of these in Dark Souls 2 And I can't even use them yet

Been rocking one since the beginning this time around. Great reach, great damage, reasonable poise break, great combos. Tad slow, but otherwise amazing all rounder, to the point that I'm building a divine one on the side just in case I start dumping into faith.

I’m starting using a “Magic Bastard Sword” as one of my weapons for my first int play through, literally just because I enjoyed the name... luckily for me though, it turns out the thing also merks in PVE, at least in the early game. It’ll probably get outclassed by my Great Scythe/Balder Side Sword once they’re fully upgraded and I have Crystal Magic Weapon, but I’m gonna have trouble saying goodbye to the Magic Bastard.

Some of the scalings listed here are wrong. I know for one my +5 Occult Bastard Sword is D/D/A (Str/Dex/Fth)

Since this article said Claymore had a preferable moveset, I decided to chart the differences. ANYWAY my comparison of this sword's (BS) moveset with Claymore (CM): IDENTICAL, their onehanded (1h) R1s and twohanded (2h) R1s are the same (horizontal slash, overhead slam respectively); their twohanded R2s are both horizontal slashes; their 1h and 2h running/backstep attacks are the same (spin attacks); and their 1h rolling attacks are the same (overhead slam). WHERE THEY DIFFER: BS's onehanded R2 and twohanded rolling attack are overhead slams; CM's 1H R2 and twohanded rolling attack are thrust attacks. I believe that's everything, please leave a message if I did miss any differences in their movesets!

Does anyone know what stats i need to one hand wield the bastardsword?
I've been trying many thing and I can say that this one is perfect anti-skely weapon. While it has no thursting attacks every hit deals some decent slashing or more like hacking damage either horizontal or vertical. And each of this attacks (no matter how you hit) will disassemble skeletons while the stronger ones will additionaly send their bones flying so you can throw them from clifs. Works on giant skeletons to. Fast and very good PvE moveset makes it superior to any blunt weapon since blunts are simply slow and can be problematic if you miss or you get swarmed by bony bois. With this sword it's no longer an issue - just spam R1/R2 and you will hack all of them to pieces. So even if you are not Faith build keep Divine Bastard Sword with you and you will have no problems going through Catacombs.
