Hints and Tips:

  • The strongest fire resistance shield in the game.
  • When maxed it has stability on par with most great shields while weighing only 6 units. The perfect Shield for those of any character type that desires the defenses of a great Shield with the weight of a medium Shield.
  • Has the 3rd highest stability of the medium shields.
  • Of it's class it is the heaviest medium shield in the game.
  • There is a typo in the description. It should say "Lordran", but it says "Lordan" instead.

this is actually not really worth farming for, first off its a rare drop and 2nd balder shield is straight up a better shield, you can always buy it for 4k guaranteed and a crystal +5 balder shield has 78 stability, so its straight up better, also crystal shields will never break unless you play pvp like all day every day, in my playthroughs i start with 22 durability and after killing gwyn i will end with 21, so i can easily do 22 full playthroughs of the entire game and it will never break, basically unless you plan to play until new game +23 then a crystal balder shield outclasses every other medium shield, also its alot lighter as well. all of this also applies to the silver knight shield as well btw, especially since that one is a 1% drop, so its even rarer to get in the first place and not even worth it since again, balder shield is just better in every way.

Ah yes, the perfect shield to use with the Drake sword for all the twink white phantoms out there. You'll look like a tryhard but at least they know they will be safe with you.

can this be farmed from the respawning black knights at the end of the game? i killed every knight in the game and have killed those respawning ones, like 40 times and still no shield. . .and this is with 410% item drop rate.
none of the drop rates quoted on this site seem accurate, because i get my loot far more rarely than this site says i should

I usually gravitate towards the silver knight shield, but the black knight shield is excellent if you need extra fire resistance and can afford the weight. It has much more stability than the dragon crest shield. 40 endurance, and ROFAP should be sufficient for a fast roll if you use a light armor set e.g. pyromancer/tattered cloth set and have a fairly lightweight weapon (I prefer balder swag sword for dex builds). So for my needs and setup, this is the perfect shield when I need extra fire protection but don’t want to sacrifice much stability

I wouldnt be blocking magic with a 40 magic sheild anyways so id prefer the extra fire resist over the sks

This is a very good shield (especially if you drop it early from a black knight) but it's clearly not the best shield. The silver knight shield has a better stability when upgraded +5 and better magic defense for a lower weight. But regarding only fire defense it's the best shield indeed.

This is arguably the best all round shield in the game. Not too heavy, unparalleled fire resistance and when fully upgraded, has a stability that rivals greatshields. Additionally, this shield can very easily parry, and if that wasn't enough, it's damn stylish.

I was lucky enough to get this to drop on the Northern Undead Asylum Knight when I was getting the rusty Iron Ring prior to Blightown. Made a lot of people happy co-oping for the Quelaag fight, being able to tank just about everything she threw at me while the host and other phantom attacked from safety, including her AoE fire ability that would only take a tiny sliver of my health away when blocking.

This is my main shield in DS3. Now that I'm trying out DS1, I'm kinda ticked that it's a rare drop before the Kiln. I mean, I have the Dragon Crest, but I always love the BKS.
