Broadsword is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
The wide blade of this straight sword emphasizes slicing and has no thrust attack."
"The horizontal sweeping motion makes this sword effective against multiple enemies."
How to Get / Where to Find the Broadsword
- Default equipment for the Knight class.
- Purchased from Andre of Astora (1,000 Souls).
Hints and Tips:
- Can be given to Kingseeker Frampt to receive 50 Souls.
- Despite this sword's deceptively small model and short range, it has the highest damage of all (infusable) straight swords.
- Strong attack (R2) does not thrust unlike most other straight swords.
- C scaling with both Strength and Dexterity gives the Broadsword better scaling than some A scaling weapons if you were to increase both stats.
- Light and strong attacks can be chained quite easily. Alternating between light and strong attacks can deal greater damage without using too much stamina and can stunlock enemies more quickly.
- The Broadsword is best used with a medium, high stability, 100% damage reduction shield. Because of this sword's short reach, having a good shield that can deflect damage can save you in some tight spots. Try pairing it with the Spider Shield.

Ah Yes a classic broadsword in age where steel weapons
were good Its Damage at the start may not be the greatest and takes a bit for
it to do some real damage its but speed can easily make up for it as it can stagger lighter enemies most of the time
the downside is it can be parried quite often cause it doesn't have a thrust move but if you like hack n slash this
weapon is for you.

Where it all started. I did a run of all 3 games where I would use the same build/gear: Elite Knight Set, Tower Kite Shield, Broadsword, and some utility sorceries (Aural Decoy, Fall Control, Cast Light). This here weapon was solid and reliable the entire way, from Gargoyles to Gael. I love you, broadsword.

Nice sword, carried me through the whole game, even beat all the AotA bosses with it. Moveset is kind of bland but it's very effective and you can upgrade it early. 9/10 would recommend.
Rating weapons based on looks:
Pretty simple yet quite thicc looking sword

Seems like the broadsword is great in the original dark souls, but its one of the best weapons in DS2(which I think is a good game overall, but a bad game by FromSoft standards)

Fun Fact: This sword appears quite similar to an Oakeshott type XVI arming sword.

Comparing weapon AR yesterday, it looks like Broadsword and Darksword have the exact same damage output at max reinforcement. Darksword is longer and has stronger R2 attacks, but at the cost of higher weight and heavier stamina usage. Broadsword is comparatively much easier to obtain, too. Not sure which is ideal...

Why should i be pairing this with a spider shield, what's the point?
Great choice for a shielded buiser build, fun to play too. My chubby crusader looks great with it.
