Claymore is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
This larger type of greatsword is normally wielded with two hands due to its weight."
"This highly flexible greatsword can be used to attack in swings or thrusts."
How to Get / Where to Find the Claymore
- Looted from a body on the bridge, guarded by the Hellkite Wyvern, in upper Undead Burg.
- Video Location Timestamp 1:27
Hints and Tips:
- Can be given to Kingseeker Frampt to receive 50 Souls.
- While one-handed, first R2 attack is a heavy forward thrust, second R2 is a heavy upward slash. R1 into R2 is a true combo of slash and followup thrust.
- While two-handed, first R2 is a heavy vertical slash, second R2 a second heavy vertical slash. R1, R2, and then R1 is a true three-hit slashing combo.
- Versatile moveset, high AR and moderate speed make this sword a very good and popular weapon for PvP.

The first time I looted this sword, I thought it dropped by one of those Undead Warriors who were killed by the dragon before. I was so stupid, that I started to farm these guys on the bridge to get a second Claymore. Haha :D

Why should you use the Claymore when you can use the Man-Serpent Greatsword for nearly the same damage?

Lmao wtf is "true combo" supposed to mean? That's literally nonsense, any combination of attacks is a COMBO. That's where the word comes from lol. Nobody has ever used much less popularized the vernacular "true combo" in any Fromsoft games, stop making things up for no reason. It's like how some people say "liquid humanity" like lmao it's always been called "soft" humanity, in over a decade I've never heard someone actually call it that. And true combo lmfao I just can't get over that totally made up phrase, like what the hell would that even pertain to, how is a thrust and slash not a "true combo" but a slash and thrust is? That makes no sense, so just an fyi for anyone trying to make edits to these pages, stop trying to completely make up vocabulary that hasn't ever existed among fans as if it means anything. There is no such thing as a "true combo", just a true idiot fabricating lies on a wiki for one of the most well established and open communities in gaming to ever exist. Hahaha, "true combo" lol what's next, you gonna say how fast rolling and mid rolling are the same and that fat roll is secretly the quickest? What a fool

I don't understand why people seem to like it, it seems like it has poor damage and it has a normal way of attacking, can someone explain? I think my dark halberd is way better

I love this thing. I am kinda clueless on picking weapons, but I think this hits the balance sweet spot between Damage,Stamina consumption,Swing speed and a nice one handed moveset. I'm not a big fan of the two handed moveset or the running attack but it's still a nice damn sword. +12 carried me till end game without any big deal
- Anonymous
Anyone like the lightning claymore? Just got it to +4 and it's damage is mediocre but it seems to stun enemies often
- Anonymous
Using it in one hand requires 16 f*cking STR and 10 DEX (the one u should never tell anyone about). Do you see a pattern here?
+15 regular or +5 lightning Claymore with it's great moveset is actually very good side-arm for Giant Dad builds for this sticky situations when we actually need to use shield to parry/riposte/block or use something that do not deal fire damage. Since clay is lighter than zwei we can also switch shield to heavier than grass crest without loosing our fast movement.

Doctor Claymore. Removes all ailments and infirmities with a simple, spirited swing of both hands.
- Anonymous
Have it on +15 with 40 Dex and 40 Strength. An absolute unit of a weapon. Got me feeling like a true scotswoman.
- Anonymous
Is claymore good for a faith dex build? I want my faith level to get up to 50 and dex to possibly 40. In any case, should I go for divine or occult?
- Anonymous
How can I get this while keeping the hellkite wyvern for killing later on? When I get this weapon, the wyvern always flies away.
- Anonymous
15+ Claymore, 26 strength, 18 dex ( Black Knight Sword as a back up ), gold pine resin, grass shield, 40 Vitality, Paladin Set. Found it really strong even PVP or PVE

fantastic weapon but unfortunately it just barely loses to the gargoyle halberd since the halberd has range dmg over it and it gives you status boosts, but if you want moveset and looks go for this godly weapon.

once i used a zweihander... but then i listened to blood of bannockburn and suddenly it was a claymore ready to fight the brits!
- Anonymous
im used to getting interrupted when swinging around a zweihander but with this, its fast enough to deal damage

this thing is a BEAST. i got it up to +5 chaos and while it doesnt do as much damage as the zwei its moveset and looks definitely make up for it

guys chaos +5 or +15 normal for a quality medium armor build? idk if i should put tons of levels into str/dex or not
- Anonymous
I picked up this thing on my blind first play through with the intent of doing a faith+strength build (played the other two dark souls games before this one), and with the intent of likely swapping it out for something like a vertical ulgs, but everytime I found new weapons I just could not get myself to swap off. Ended the game just absolutely in love with this weapon. It's fast, deals good damage, and has a versatile and fun moveset combining both 2h and 1h. You get it super early on and is good even through endgame. HIGHLY recommend for PvE as well as PvP
- Anonymous
the scaling for divine is wrong, it is d in Str, a d in dex, and a c in faith.
If you are doing PVP this is arguably the best weapon in the game... The base damage is quite good without being OP, same with the scaling, but what makes it so good is the Moveset... Everything with the claymore is well balanced, the Weapon is good enough to let you LEARN (maybe even kill) AS A RESULT of your skills (not of the weapon power), and so you start to... git gud (eventually_... Lets say something like the Goldtracer - terrible effing weapon - you will get some wins as a result of the weapon being so OP (not really against an experienced player) but what can you learn from a freaking goldtrracer? : just to spam the R1.
You master the claymore, you are ready to fight with any weapon of the game

doing level 80 pop with this and +5 giants armour is op as hell, you just r1 and they die.

It impresses me how much people love this greatsword, but currently I have it both with the black night sword, and I just feel like the bk sword is much stronger. If someone could explain me why everyone is so loving for this weapon I would appreciate it
So I'm planning on making a faith paladin with sunlight blade, should I make this beauty raw or standard and go quality build?
- Anonymous
The Claymore is essentially a Bastard sword that you can get for free with a better strong attack. Absolutely amazing weapon.
- Anonymous
What do I infuse this weapon with to get the highest possible phisical damage-numbers?
- Anonymous
I tried so hard to get this thing of beauty... I knew where it was, I just didn’t know how to get past that wyvern. I mean, for f*cks sake I died over a dozen times just trying to reach that bonfire. In my last attempt I was just standing in that save space, just spacing out, looking up how the f*ck you could get past it. But before I realised, that goddamn thing just flew down and started walking towards me. As soon as I noticed, I just ran for my life. Only one frame away from being roasted yet again before I sat down in safety. And when I turned around the wyvern was gone... I took the Claymore, equipped it, and I’m never gonna main any other weapon anymore (maybe). I’m so happy with this weapon, but I have to ask; where did that wyvern go?

Hi everyone i played ds3 and bloodborne i wanted to make a 60/60/60/30 (strength,Dex,Faith, int) build and wanted to ask which infusion to make thanks

One of the crappiest weapons in the game, so little damage compared to other great swords, may as well use a long sword.
- Anonymous
Claymore. Swamp, green titanite shard from worm with master key. Great Hollow for blue titanite chunk. Come back to darkwood garden grab enchanted coal from chest near the mushrooms men. Upgrade your claymore. Have an enchanted claymore at the start of the game! Intelligence will upgrade your spells and your sword!

A nice wee bit of trivia: The Claymore in game is the very same as the Scottish Highland Claymore, or "Claidheamh-mòr" (pronounced "Clay-em-mor" in Scottish Gaelic, the language of the Scottish Highlands at the time the sword was fashioned).

What type of Ascension for Claymore is good in PvE? Chaos, Lightning or Regular?

Barely getting into Dark Souls, and I'm trying to understand why the Claymore is praised so much. Is it the scaling bonus? Does it not cap?

modify with lightning or upgrade to +15 for a pve quality build?

Crossposting this from the Bastard Sword article; since that article said Claymore had a preferable moveset, I decided to chart the differences for anyone who like me was curious. SO, my comparison of this sword's (BS) moveset with Claymore (CM): IDENTICAL - their onehanded (1h) R1s and twohanded (2h) R1s are the same (horizontal slash, overhead slam respectively); their twohanded R2s are both horizontal slashes; their 1h and 2h running/backstep attacks are the same (spin attacks); and their 1h rolling attacks are the same (overhead slam). WHERE THEY DIFFER - BS's onehanded R2 and twohanded rolling attack are overhead slams; CM's 1H R2 and twohanded rolling attack are thrust attacks. I believe that's everything, please leave a message if I did miss any differences in their movesets!

Whoever listed the "combos" (the 2H R1,R2,R1, or 1H R1,R2 for example) in this article... doesn't know much about this game. Every other weapon in this game that has R1,R1 and/or R2,R2 strings will essentially do the same thing with those inputs. The 1H R1, R2, for example, is straight up just the R1 attack followed by the R2 attack. The other one is the same, except the R2 is followed up by the second R1 attack in the R1,R1 chain. Again, every weapon with strings (i.e. not warpick and so on) can do these same "combos," they are not particular to this weapon. Disappointing but not unexpected.

While I'm a sentimental sucker for the Greatsword and never don't love black knight weapons when running fast in ng, it's easily the best all around weapon in the game. With relatively low stat investment, an elemental chaos claymore is hell on wheels for ng base game pvp and pve, and a fully upgrade claymore at +15 all around will never fail you with it's beautiful moveset when you move into NG+ and beyond. Anyway, when I say beautiful, this clip I took yesterday on twitch says it better than any post I could make:
