Demon's Catalyst is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.

 

 

 

Demon catalyst formed from Izalith molten rock. Can be used as fire weapon. The Demon Firesage was the first demon, and the last master of the original fire arts, before the Witch of Izalith was engulfed by Chaos, creating pyromancy."

Notes

  • Give to Frampt to receive 50 souls.
  • This catalyst's base Magic Adjust and Intelligence scaling is very low, and as such spells cast with it typically do less damage than spells cast with other catalysts, however due to its STR and DEX scaling and lower than average INT scaling, Dark Sorceries cast with this catalyst tend to do more physical damage and less magic damage than other catalysts, allowing you to deal more damage through an opponent's Great Magic Barrier.
  • The fire damage from this catalyst's melee attack scales with intelligence, it is the only catalyst with Int scaling on its normal attack damage.

      If you are playing INT/DEX build this catalyst is better for dark sorcery than any other.

      So go for this and forget about Manus Big Bonk and it's halved spells casts.

          Worth noting that the Demon's catalyst, and various spells or weapons result in fewer total souls dropped by enemies, provided they land the finishing blow.

          IE: The flames produced will burn away a portion of the target's souls, resulting in less payoff.

          EX: 360 souls dropped from killing an enemy with a normal weapon or spell
          300 souls dropped if killing blow was from demon's catalyst boop, or fire tempest, fire surge, etc.

              This is a very solid melee weapon for quality builds and mages. 10 intelligence is the minimum to follow Logan's story so it's far from wasted stat points. Int is also needed for any of the three Artorias swords. Strike damage, for armor, shields, skeletons and even stone demons. Flame damage for most undead, plants, slimes, painted world and flame stagger. Mages should consider 12 Strength to use this one handed as there primary melee weapon while casting with Ivory (Demon 4 weight + ivory 0.5 weight) until intelligence level 28. At that point you should have a +5 magic weapon as an alternative.

                This thing is very good for people using dark spells, or who mainly uses buffs and focuses on melee with magic weapons! I often use it on my pyro/dark sorcerer build for an effective melee quick attack if I have my hands full with my casting tools. ... now if only they'd brought it back for dark souls 3, and made the weapon art temporarily make sorcery do fire damage instead, or give a small fiery AoE akin to what the Demon Firesage does in this game.

                  While I can't fairly evaluate this catalyst's poke damage, it's -very- high compared to other many other weapons and it scales primarily with INT but also secondarily with STR and DEX! If you want to melee and cast, this is a solid all-around item to use!
