Dragon Greatsword is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
This sword, one of the rare dragon weapons, came from the tail of the stone dragon of Ash Lake, descendant of the ancient dragons."
"Its great mystical power will be unleashed when wielded with two hands."
How to Get / Where to Find the Dragon Greatsword
- Obtained by cutting off the Everlasting Dragon's Tail in Ash Lake.
- Note: This will not make him hostile or break the Covenant. Tail does grow back, but cutting it second time doesn't give you the weapon anymore. Ancient Stone Dragon does not become hostile if you do so, or attack it in any other way.
- Video Location Timestamp 7:15
Hints and Tips:
- Give to Frampt to receive 5000 souls.
- Special: Gives +20 Magic and +20 Fire resistance.
- Special: Two-handed R2 shoots a shock wave in a straight line along the ground, and will even travel up walls. Using this ability reduces the weapon durability by 50 points per use.
- Only 34 Strength is required to use it if held in both hands.
- The Dragon Greatsword, Black Knight Greatsword and Demon Great Machete are slower than the Greatsword and the Zweihander. Though they don't appear to be much slower, it is more difficult to stunlock enemies with the first three.
Lore
- The Dragon Greatsword is part of a theme that connects the Everlasting Dragons to stone.

Power Within+Dragon Torso Stone Buff+2H R2=Now that's a lot of damage!

Sure it's not the strongest Ultra Greatsword because although it has monstrous base damage it has literally zero scaling or most practical one since it's extremely heavy on top of having very high requirements for 1-handing and the R2 which is it's most powerful and unique trait eats through durability like crazy, but honestly this might be my favorite Ultra Greatsword besides the Zweihander just for how fun it is to use, particularly with that R2 which might just be the most powerful R2 attack in the game in terms of power,
the vertical blast not only floors enemies and does high damage but it also has incredible range as it goes very far before it dissipates, but it also does absolutely devastating damage if you land a hit with both the weapon itself and the shockwave and immense poise damage, and the incredibly high durability usage of it can be mitigated by not using the R2 too recklessly and just simply buying a ton of repair powder from the Undead Merchant in Undead Burg which is not hard to accomplish as he sells them for a pretty cheap price.
Overall, not exactly a super broken weapon or anything and it's somewhat impractical, but it's still an incredibly powerful weapon if used well particularly with the R2, and although it's got no scaling it's enormous base damage mean it doesn't need that much investment to deal devastating damage, and if you can get it early it's extremely strong if you can make use of it without fat-rolling, just remember to have a healthy amount of repair powder if you intend to make use of this weapon.

Love that he doesn't give a **** when you cut of his tail, he's like - oh it is like that, you got some scales tho?
This carried me through the first half, Black Knight Sword carried me through the second half.

A very rewarding and fun sword requiring a heavy investment. Questing to the bottom of the Hollow is part of the fun. Be sure to stock up on repairpowder. The AR is sufficient to stunlock or 1shot most enemies, while the added utility of the special R2 makes the weapon extremely versatile. Learn to connect the tip of the sword with the 2hR2 attack to land both the melee and projectile for damage that competes for best in game.
A great weapon.

If you can get it early this thing is extremely strong provided you can handle the weight without fat-rolling, almost like the Drake Sword's big bro, it does get outclassed in terms of damage compared to the other weapons in its class due to its lack of scaling however, you could argue that the shockwave R2 does help make up for that however, which has pretty respectable range

The more I look at this thing, the more I realise it's not worth the trouble of using it.
It require 50 strenght to be used for 585 base dammages at +5 but with no strenght scaling whatsoever meaning no bonus dammages based on strenght. Not even a low bonus but no bonus at all.
The Demon Great Machete in comparison is much lighter (18 for the machete, 24 for this), only require 40 STR to be used and even at 40 strenght and "only" 332 of base dammages the machete will easily go above 600 AR thanks to it's A scaling in strenght thus far outclassing this Dragon Greatsword.
Even the Black Knight Greatsword with 330 base dammages and "only" a B in Strenght is far superior in AR and also has a natural dammage bonus to demon's (and is even lighter than the Machete) and-like all black knight weapons, deal the most poise dammages out of any other weapon of their respective weapon class meaning it's next to impossible to just eat it's attack and poise through it.
Sure, it outclass the other UGS, the Zweihander and the greatsword in term of pure physical dammages that is true HOWEVER unlike the Zweihander or the Greatsword, this thing is still worthless because these two are accessible early game, demand far less stat investment and can be ascended to be put to other uses such as lightning or chaos thus making them more versatile and this versatility allow them to outclass the Dragon Greatsword with the correct build like the famous Chaos Zweihander with high humanity level for massive fire dammages.
So long story short, if you want raw physical dammages, the Demon Great Machete and the Black Knight Greatsword will outclass any other Ultra Greatswords while the Zweihander and the Greatsword are not as strong physically (yes) but have the advantage of being able to change scaling based on what ascension you put on them making them very versatile and allowing them to make very high dammages regardless.
So what is the point of this Dragon Greatsword compared to the other members of it's weapon class ? It cannot deal elemental dammages, require too much strenght for no scaling in strenght whatsoever, is stupidly heavy and is outclassed by two other UGS with far lower stat requirements so really why use this weapon ?
The weapon art ? This thing that have a slow activation time, eat up 50 points of the weapon's durability and can't even reach that far unless we're talking about very specific situations ? Long story short, trash Ultra Greatsword, I don't recommend you use it unless you wanna troll or something...

i don't know if it's really worth it, unless you specifically want a glass cannon build. it's hard to swing even with 50 strength

You can two hand it right after beating taurus demon if you are up for some farming. Once you beat Taurus, run up on the bridge where the red dragon is and run back down and you will get about 500 souls, if you only level strength in that time you will get to 34 with a little bit of farming.

One running attack with the upgraded greatsword will stun Super Smough on NG+. Good weapon.

i can't believe i didn't check to see that you need strength 50 to use this before upgrading it to +5. feel like such an idiot rn

Fsr I love this weapon for forcing you to use repair powder, the favorite run I did is where I used this with dark wood grain ring for a really fun glass cannon flip build.

ok so, this weapon has absolutely no scaling? yes/no? if so, using it, you probably should just put all your stats into Vit, End and stats for other weapons?

Does this effect early game in invasions? I got it using the master key before even making it past firelink shrine at lvl 6. Will this stop me from farming for dragon shards early game using dragon eye?

Forget about scaling weapon damage is great my only regret is that you cant enchant it like gaping dragon greataxe
- Anonymous
I dunno if it's just for +5, but the damage reductions are off. My +5 is listed as having 70 physical, 10 magic, 50 fire, 50 lightning, and 44 stability.

Call me a madman but it looks a bit like Sparda sword from devil may cry
- Anonymous
How about this and gaping dragon greataxe? They have very high base damage and i was wondering if they are good in dlc like artorias or kalameet?

me : boss sorry for cutting your tail off
boss : no matter kid it'll grow back now go kill somebody and bring me some scales

Statistically the weakest UGS at 40-50 STR, but the R2 attack is incredibly strong, I think it's 2X the base damage, and it obviously has range.
- Anonymous
this weapon would be my #1 if it had any strength scaling at all above 30%

The table for upgrades has it listed as the Moonlight Greatsword. Could someone change that?
- Anonymous
Eh, I found it underwhelming for the most part, dragon tooth or any black knight weapon is a solid way to go imo.

"Wow this thing fires shockwaves that hit like a truck! Definitely using this!" "Weapon at risk" "NOOOO IT HAS A CATCH"

Reinforced it to max, yet on ng++ or +++, it takes 2 to 3 one hand heavy or light hits just to kill a plant enemy in the Darkroom Gardens.....

My favorite weapon build (I’m big on magic so it’s rare for me to do one) is the Dragon Warrior. What I do is make a quick run for Ash Lake upon arriving at Firelink, which isn’t hard and actually very easy, get the sword and grind away at the mushroom parents using the dragon headstone fire. Get the stats for the weapon, run for Vally of Drakes, farm scales and get the torso stone. All you really need is just the strength for two handing it and everything else can into whatever else.
*Summons friend with Dragon Greataxe as I get out my Dragon Greatsword* M-m-make the ground shake *Bass Cannon*
