Fire Upgrades | Dark Souls Wiki

Kind of a trap path really. It is tempting to make your fav weapon fire asap, since you can do it +8 pretty much after quelaag, but there are so many fire resistant enemies in the game, AND its damage will always be worse than lightning, which is resisted pretty much only by O&S and SG,don't even get me started on PVP. If you want some fire dmg, better make chaos - it has comparable damage and shall you rack up some humanity, it will outperform even lightning, chaos also does much more fire dmg than physical, which is better for weak to fire foes. But if your fav weapon is one-of-a-kind, then better make it lightning if you don't want scaling - the only thing about it is that it is available later in the game and you may have some trouble with O&S (who are not a very hard boss anyway)

You can get a +8 fire weapons defeating only the asylum demon, quelaag and cheesing ceasless discharge, you pick the master key and grab the things behind the elevator. Then you go to blighttown through new londo, in blighttown grab all the soul items etc, and go to the great hollow, grab both of the red chunks there and get back to the main bonfire. Become human and wait for mildred to invade, after filling her, summon her to kill quelaag easily. Then cheese ceasless. Run all the way to the large flame ember behing a bunch of worms and bone out. Then go back to the great hollow bonfire, and farm for green shards from the slugs. They drop 5 at a time so it won't take long (use humanities if you want more item discovery). After farming go back to firelink shrine, and jump up to the asylum, you can do it without having the shortcut to undead parish. In the asylum, kill both black knights for their chunks and head back to firelink. Now go down to Vamos and consume all your souls to buy 9 titanite shards, upgrade your desired weapons to +5, ascend to fire, +5 fire, ascend agian and get it to +8. Now enjoy (now that you are here go destroy penwheel in 2 hits) I hope this help

Super duper usefull ascension for more grindy types of players. Get shitton of green shards from A- slugshit in the dephts or B- *****lugs in the Blighttown. Run to Vamos, enjoy. With master key you can go straight to Andre without worrying about bosses/ fights too much and from there just upgrade you favourite weapon and hit the elevator when you are ready to go to the catacombs/ blighttown :) Uchigatana, Estoc, Bastard Sword, Balder S.S. are all excellent while Fire infused :)

I guess I'm just a newbie or whatever....
but so many of these weapon upgrades say "good/recommended for low level players with low stats", except you don't get the ember and necessary materials until like halfway through the game.
Like, who's out there running around with rare embers, chunks and slabs and is still at low levels?

I don't really understand the logic behind ascension that removes scaling from weapons, at a point in the game at which most people will have high stats for their weapons...

very worth, chaos ascension cna be very good depending on your weapon. Gargoyle halberd is excellent
