If you don’t plan to invest points in strength or dexterity, this is the best weapon you can get, also very early since you can reset the bell gargoyle boss ‘till you get it. Excellent reach, moveset and power, infuse it with lightning, or chaos, and you got a complete weapon early with minimal investment.
You can then move to boost other stats like hp, endurance, int or faith, most enemies that take little damage from magic are weak to lighting, while the very few that resist lightning don’t like fire.
Consider also investing in a shield with good stability to trivialise stuff like Bed of Chaos or Manus, my suggestion would be the silver knight shield, best stability outside of the greatshields, good weight, can be upgraded easily with twinkling titanite, and you just need 14 strength.
Bonus roleplay point: go for the linking of the fire ending, as your equipment is entirely Anor Londo centered, you can easily roleplay as a halberd trained silver knight remorseful that they weren’t there when Gwyn linked the first flame

Great weapon for new players. If big and powerful weapons are too slow for you and fast weapons have too short range use this. Good range and damage with decent speed. If you follow typical exploring path you should get it during 3rd boss fight so pretty early.
TIP #1: If you don't level faith and you don't like halberds still keep this one and make it divine. Great for sweeping skeletons in catacombs and Nito rave club so they don't return to dance floor anymore.
TIP #2: If you have other divine weapon and you still don't want to use halberd as your primary weapon make it elemental (lighting, fire or chaos) and keep as backup weapon for emergency situations.

This has been my primary weapon since the Belltower Gargoyle fight and everything about it is perfect especially once you infuse it with lightning. Double handing got me through Four Kings in under 3 minutes. Diligence pays off when levelling this weapon, greatly.

"Perfectly standard . . . with no special power." That's how they describe one of the best weapons in the game. I love this game; even when it gives you something powerful it still finds a way to troll you.
Folks this is the best weapon in this game. Lightening GH out does the Black Knight weapons at +5. It is absolutely amazing. Ignore it if you want but this thing is a killer on another level.

Gonna be completely honest here. My second playthrough in Dark Souls i tried to use the zweihander because people kept saying it was OP.
Now maybe it was because i was dumb or something (it probably is), but i found the game to be extremely hard when i used it (compared to my first playthrough, which was a katana build). Zwei just felt so damn slow and it wasn't doing as much damage as i hoped, not to mention that i often get staggered before i get my hit so damn often (i always prioritize VIT and END and it still happened because i just couldn't get enough poise for mid roll weight)
So i started messing around with the weapons i had, trying out their moveset and dps one by one. And it was then that i found this beauty. My true mentor, my guiding gargoyle halberd.
Sure, poise damage wasn't as good as zwei, but everything else was the perfect fit for my playstyle. Decent range, nice moveset, and as long as you hit your enemy (which you should be doing) the DPS was just absolutely bonkers. And you don't even need to invest in any damage stats to achieve that because +5 chaos or lightning is already good.
Enchanted +5 for this weapon has A SCALING IN INT?! WOWWWWW LET'S GO NEW MAIN WEAPON HEE HEE HEE

Chaos +5 will overkill (extra souls) dark wraiths. So with proper setup you will be getting 2k souls from one wraith along with chunks and slubs. Main reason why I'm overlevelled
- Anonymous
People always say zwei is the op weapon in DS1, but to me it always feels way too slow and stamina-consuming. This thing is more like it.
- Anonymous
Fun fact that sounds fake: this weapon secretly deals thrust damage, so if you use leo on a +15 version of this weapon, it can easily deal 1000 damage on a counter. Tested it out today.
So why does the item description lie? "Perfectly standard bronze halberd without any special power" yet it gives you resistance to poison and toxin. Anybody else find that weird?

lets be honest. the scaling on this weapon isnt ideal so why do normal/raw when fire/ltng is an option?

The comments on farming this weapon and how gargoyles drop it confuse me. The weapon always drops for me when cutting off the tail of the gargoyle in Anor Londo who appears when you open up the elevator shortcut leading into the main cathedral. If you aren't opposed to doing the early game before O&S without it, feel free to save yourself the headache and try it this way.
People are also asking about upgrades. I've used it for multiple playthroughs and would say it's one of the better weapons in the game if you aren't dedicated to dumping stats into STR/DEX/INT/FAI at all, which is how I prefer to play this particular souls game. At that basic 16 STR/12 DEX requirement, your best option is Lightning. Other infusions have their advantages for various builds in various situations, but this is your best bet.
I hope people find this helpful.

once you get to a certain point (maybe 30/30 or something) this thing actually outclasses the BKH due to it's higher scaling and it can be buffed too, it's probably one of the best PvE weapons imo.
- Anonymous
It's not true that gargoyles drop only one thing. U can farm this halberd, shield and helmet as many times you want.
Step 1: Enter the fog gate leading to gargoyles.
Step 2 (Optional, only one time possible): Cut 1st gargoyle tail to get his elastic rubber axe if u like it.
Step 3: Kill one of the gargoyles leaving second one alive.
Step 4: You will get: nothing OR halberd OR shield OR helmet (sometimes even more than one item at a time)
Step 5: Run to the entrance and jump to your death nearby or let the other gargoyle finish you (just to leave blood stain near fog gate)
Step 6: Return, pick your remains and repeat whole process as many times u want to get desired ammount of gargoyle's stuff.
Step 7: Profit? (when u done finish both and u may even get item from the second as well)
Tested on few characters while playing PTDE so should work on Remaster too.

this thing was made for raw because there is no reduction in the scale
and André is right next to her after getting

ayo whats the recommended enchantment for this weapon? thanks
- Anonymous
The best halberd imo. Amazing moveset, long range..early chaos version is a beast.

The elemental infusions are great, but on a quality build this thing also rocks. For some reason all its attacks benefit from leo ring whether they're thrusting or not. Insane counter damage.
My personal favorite weapon. Much like the halberd but with slightly less thrust damage and more regular damage. The moveset chops instead of stabs. The resistance bonus only sweetens the deal.
When fighting the gargoyle bosses, make sure the first one gives you it when he dies. Otherwise just jump off the building and try again. Sooooo worth getting it.

This thing got me from the Gargoyles all the way to the Kiln (Farmed & swapped up to Black Knight Halberd +5 right before Artorias), no other weapons in-between. +5'd immediately, +10'd right after entering the depths, and +15'd right after Anor. Fantastic weapon if you keep it levelled. Finishing off Kalameet & Manus before going at Gwyn, and paired with a similarly maxed grassroots shield, I'd say it was almost perfect throughout.
- Anonymous
Farming method has been patched for years, you only receive awards after bell garg fight is over now, not during. Only thing during is tail axe.
- Anonymous
Here's the thing, the regular halberd gets a slight damage boost in terms of elemental infusions like enchanted. I think the halberd gets A scaling while the gargoyle halberd gets B. So you will do a bit more damage depending on your build with the normal halberd. However, if it's an infusion with no scaling, like lightning, the gargoyle halberd leaves the regular halberd in the dust. The exception being chaos, which although does not scale with stats, but with humanity, this creates a very special weapon that I would agree is a bit broken given that you can get it so early and it gives you end game stats. Also the gargoyle halberd gives you a bump in all resistance categories.
- Anonymous
Chaos Gargoyle Halberd = Broken. You can get it to +5 before Sen's Fortress if you know where to go. Insanely OP weapon that early with low stat investment. You'll never have trouble with invaders again, unless they are also rocking a one. Ideal for gankers or people that want an easy road through the game. The only thing that's tricky is the humanity.
- Anonymous
In the Chaos+4's magic defense, it says it is 32,7 while it should be 32.7 but it works either way (Max chart). It also doesn't reflect those stats when you do click on the Chaos upgrade chart
- Anonymous
Been playing since 2013 and for some reason did not realize that gargoyle weapons could be infused or buffed. I think I confused them with dragon weapons. With every infusion this halberd gives you about 45 extra AR than the regular halberd. It doesn't have the thrusting attack that the normal halberd has, but it still seems to have the same range hit wise, and the vertical into the horizontal swing makes this a much better option for PvP.
- Anonymous
A straight direct upgrade to the normal halberd in every way. One of the top 5 best weapons in the entire game, best chaos weapon in the game, even with 0 humanity it has a 497 AR (601 AR with 10). I still use this weapon with my Max Level character when I am up against enemies that are very weak to fire damage. It's just simply that good. If there is a downside to using this weapon, the only one I have found is from getting hate mail from PvP.

I was playing around with the mungenmokey AR tool checking out the highest AR for chaos weapons. This appears to be possibly the best chaos weapon in the game, and somehow I missed it all these years. When maxed out at +5, with 10 humanity, this has a 601 AR. And it only weighs 6, has excellent range, has a fast move set and 360 damage, and you only need 16 str and 12 dex. And it gives you added resistance like all gargoyle items. You can get this weapon very early game as a chance drop and if can beat Quelaag early on, you can make a dash for both embers needed in the Demon ruins with ease, and then take the shortcut to Vamos. There is no scaling to worry about except for the humanity. My SL22 character has a 601 AR on NG without even ringing the second bell and I only needed to kill two bosses. I never really messed with chaos weapons before because of the liquid humanity required but this is crazy. I have not seen this mentioned on this wiki, did anyone else know about this?

Without a doubt the best weapon in DSR. It’s easily obtainable from the beginning of the game if you farm the Gargoyles by killing one and waiting to see if they drop it, and if not, just dying to go back in. It has relatively bad one handed capabilities but if you two hand it and run a strength build or quality build, by god you will be unstoppable. As long as you can time dodges and understand enemy timing, you can dish out enough damage to put black knights to shame in just a few hits. This thing absolutely shreds bosses, not to mention basic enemies and has fast attacks, as well as low stamina cost per hit. The ONLY possible weakness that this weapon has is its lack of poise, hence why you need to be good at dodging, but as long as you aren’t brain dead, this weapon can carry you through the entire game without a hitch

Since obtaining the first lord soul, this became my main weapon along with the Zweihander. This thing wrecks the catacombs and the tomb of giants if divine. I then used it for the rest of the game at lightning +5. Amazing damage with all attacks, fast R1 attacks, Doesn't consume much stamina, decent weight, good attack range and increased resistances, making it very useful for blightown and many other places. Good weapon.
- Anonymous
Bruh I got the gargoyle helm, halberd and shield from the dudes in Anor Londo. Sitting there thinking I'll never get those items and boom
- Anonymous
You can get this weapon from the initial boss fight with the twin gargoyles, or later on in Anor Londo from the two gargoyles guarding the path. I believe it's a guarantee in Anor Londo, but from the Twin Gargoyles it's about 20%ish on the drop? Something close. Either way, you can increase your chances of acquiring the weapon by consuming five humanity and slaying them. Cutting off one's tail gives you a war axe, which is not what you seek. It's the halberd you seek. Some people are in these comments spreading misinformation. The halberd drop sadly is a pure luck drop and if you want it to bust in the teeth of other low SL players? You'd have to run that boss fight and if it didn't drop, leave out, make a new character and go through all that crap again.
- Anonymous
If you're looking for a good Chaos weapon this is an amazing choice, it hits 601 AR at +5 Chaos with 10 Humanity (making it the 8th strongest Chaos weapon), it weighs pretty much HALF of the other top ten Chaos weapons in terms of numerical AR. Not only that it has the lowest Strength Requirement as well so you don't need to put as much into those stats for a powerful Chaos weapon that you can one-hand that won't weigh down lighter characters either.
- Anonymous
The obtaining method is incorrect. The Halberd is a drop from the gargoyles, while the Tail Axe drops when you cut off the tail. Someone correct this as i cannot seem to figure out how.
- Anonymous
The description is wrong. The halberd drops when you cut of the gargoyle‘s tail.
- Anonymous
The description about the weapon being a random drop may be misleading as it is not completely random. It is guaranteed that one (and only one) of the three gargoyles will drop this halberd on any given game cycle. It is random which of the three will drop it, but one of them is guaranteed to drop it. So you will only get one of these halberds per game cycle if you kill all three gargoyles. It is the same with some of the other items that they drop like the Gargoyle's Helm and Gargoyle's Shield. Not sure about the tail axe since I don't care about that weapon.

First Tried Manus with this weapon, no kidding, this weapon is actually very good. Long Range, fast animation, very good damage, buffable. Underrated weapon btw Clap
I love this halberd so much, it is one of the strongest halberds, is extremely light and fast, has one of if not the longest ranges of any other halberd, adds to your resistances and is buffable. This thing is an absoulute beast unlike what its description would have you believe

This weapon seems to oddly do a*****load of damage with a Chaos Infusion and 10 Humanity

I tried quitting, it didn't work................ And luckily the sunlight idiot killed the second gargoyle while i was busy trying to quit, because why would I want the *****ing halberd anyway!

The resistance bonuses kind of contradict the weapon description. Maybe From did that intentionally so less people would use it? Or maybe I’m reading too far into something simple.
