Great Scythe is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
Weapon with a long curved blade. Converted from a wheat-harvesting tool.
The magnificent sharp curved blade instills fear in opponents. Perhaps it is their survival instinct at work."
How to Get / Where to Find the Great Scythe
- Found in The Catacombs, above lever to the second closed door. The entrance is accessed by jumping off the second spiked rotating bridge.
- Video Location Timestamp 19:05
Notes
- Give to Frampt to receive 50 souls.
- Bleed build up is 30 per strike, and once inflicted will tear 30% of the opponents HP.
- This weapon can be acquired very early in game, and there's a green titanite shard in the catacombs as well, giving you the option to go to blacksmith Vamos and make a fire scythe (the scythe must be upgraded to +5 first). Blacksmith Vamos sells titanite shards.
- One-handed moveset is both very long ranged and versatile, and consumes relatively little stamina - thus it is very good for lightweight characters.

Amazing weapon. High damage output. Used this on my first ng and i might've accidentally weakened my skill because i don't have anything stronger to use on ng+. Also great for killing Solaire. 10/10
How to be OP in 10 minutes:
- Warrior, Master Key;
- Kill Ass-ylum Demon, go to Firelink;
- Go to the Catacombs with shield up, passing through every skeleton on the level;
- Pick this baby boy;
- Kill Jokewheel for easy 14k souls;
- 14 str, 14 dex, the rest you put in endurance (or a few in health if you're a scrub boi);
- Go back to Firelink and down to New Londo;
- Go through Valley of Drakes and to Darkroot;
- Pick Weed Shield for stamina regen, then back rub Havel the Cock for Havel's Ring;
- Kill Taurus for easy 3k and go to the Church;
- Free Lautrec and kick him down in Firelink;
- Go to Andre and buy 9 Tits for +5 baby boi;
- Success!!!

The backstab animation is bizarre (you stab with the blunt top side, which seems kind of impossible). Fantastic weapon though. Running attack melts bosses.

I have only 30 Dex, just got to Anor Londo and this boy is mowing through the level like it is nothing

Best weapon for pure casters when upgraded on any elemental patch, no matter if you are wizard or cleric.
With only 14 DEX and 14 STR you get whooping 250 physical and 250 elemental damage (more or less depending on picked path) - very deadly if you spam op R2 attack of this weapon.
Put all other levels into VIT, END, ATT and INT / FAI.
Lots of health, lots of stamina, lots of powerfull spells to spam and this weapon as cherry on top when you need to hack something.
Probably the best halberd - definitely the best for dex builds. The one hand move set is not worth your time, but two handed mows your ass down. Deadly in PVE and PVP. Buff this at Anor Londo and it melts Smough with lightning and bleed stacking on each other. Throw on power within if you're a real *******.

my favourite weapon to use, you can acquire it and upgrade to +15 before killing any boss except asylum demon & capra demon (you need master key)
1- kill asylum demon
2- go to catacombs
3- pickup this
4- kill pinwheel
5- get back to firelink
6- go to blighttown, rest at bonfire, pickup power within, die
7- respawn at blighttown bonfire, kill slugs to farm large titanite shards
8- get back to firelink
9- go to undead burg to parish, take shortcut to lower undead burg, open shortcut to firelink from there
10- go back to there and kill capra demon
11- go to depths, take large ember from there (free pyromancer npc too if u didnt choose pyromancer as your starting class as you need pyromancy flame to cast power within)
12- go back to firelink
13- go to new londo ruins, kill the npc on there and use key to drain water early
14- get very large ember from there
15- kill darkwraiths to farm titanite chunks
16- go to valley of drakes, take the shortcut from there to undead parish (alternatively u can take another path from havels room to get there aswell.)
17- talk with blacksmith, give both embers to him
18- upgrade your beloved great scythe to +15 with titanites you've farmed.
19- go wreck some bosses with power within + r2 attack of this beast (you can one shot taurus demon with plunging attack btw)
note 1: make sure to put enough levels on dex
note 2: u can free sorcerer npc in lower undead burg and learn magic weapon spell (later you can swap it with great magic weapon in anor londo, and crystal magic weapon in late game)
note 3: alternatively u can use sunlight blade but it takes longer to obtain, its a lot better though, especially if u plan to go on ng+.

The dex equivalent of the zweihander.
14 ****ING STRENGTH, BUT DON'T TELL ANYONE YOU LEVELED THAT UP.

You can beat the game (ng+7) with this the only downside is it only has one type of light attack and its slow compared to its heavy attacks. Has bleed good scaling and moveset also you can buff it with miracles and resins im on ng+ about to finish it and ng+ feels like ng give it a try i say.

I'm doing a new playthrough with this weapon, and holy ****....as far as pve goes its just godlike. Fast, versatile, with insane range and hits like a truck, it made the first part of the game (I still have to kil Quelaag) a cakewalk. The only downside I could find is that the moveset tends to struggle with shorter enemies on close quarters (eg: crystal lizards). Other than that tts just wonderful.

Good old DS1 times when you could get some really cool weapons from the start of the game due to the open and interconnected world design

I put fire on it and kill the phalanx in 3 hits with the r2. Very fast soul farming.
I’ve found it useful in a lot of situations.

this weapon has a huge aoe attack on r2, can bring down multiple enemies at once in a single slash.

Great weapon, but I'm left feeling like I need another weapon slot being a sorcerer, int talisman, and dex weapon user. Also use a short bow. If it had a thrust or stun lock capable move I'd use it. It's just not fast enough for me and it looks like it does the most for a faith build. Show me a weapon that does bleed and toxic then I'll throw everything out the window for it.
Its one-handed light attack is a vertical slash that can stagger Chaos Witch Quelaag if it connects with her upper body. You can exploit this attack to stun-lock her to death.
I find this weapon quite tricky to use. Both one and two-handed R1's have a long wind-up and I find it hard to stagger anything with it. The 2-H R2 is quite potent though as you can stand out of range and the attack lunges forward into range with good damage. The running attack is fantastic imo, it's very fast and has good angles.

Pros: It has the highest damage for a pure dex character with minimal strenght required, and can be obtained at the very beginning of the game. Good for crowd control. Cons: It looks silly, and its moveset aside from the R2 is really horrible. Not to mention that it swings slower if you miss your target, adding a sort of lag between your hits.

After using Burial Blade in Bloodborne, you only wish GS had similar moveset.

"wait so did i kill gwyn or did i kill the guy that makes popcorn?"

the r1 is trash and super slow. Reminds me of the greataxe category in ds3.

Using this for too long makes you tend to forget the difference between those endowed with the power of lords, and corn.

This thing is off the hook. God tier range of spears, but with sweeping attacks and better tracking. Swing speed and damage comparable to a great sword. Critical multiplier will outdamage the Balder Side Sword, Uchikatana, Priscilla's Dagger, Gold Tracer, or Silver Tracer at similiar upgrade levels and and dexterity. Shields? How about bleed build up. Also, completely buff-able. I missed this thing in the original, but toyed with it in the remaster, where I easily went off on two separate 70+ win streaks in arena duels. Wondering why I rarely, if ever, see this god tier weapon amongst 1,000 Giant Dad, Dark Bead spam, or Wrath of Gods spam builds.

Very awesome weapon, I completely missed it last time I played DS1 and found it after I got bored with DS3, and now I wish that it would've been as good in DS3 as it is in DS1.
can anyone explain to me what should i do to make my great scythe op?.......from the levels of dex and the rest
