Hints and Tips:

  • Can be given to Kingseeker Frampt to receive 50 Souls.
  • Greatsword of Artorias can be upgraded by using Demon Titanite.
  • This weapon has split AR, which decreases the total damage significantly. As a trade off, it sports a 140 Divine damage modifier and a hidden passive modifier against Abyss enemies (Darkwraith Knights, The Four Kings), making it a potent choice for traversing lower New Londo Ruins and The Catacombs.
  • Like the Abyss Greatsword, this sword requires only Strength and Dexterity for the Physical damage scaling. It is still usable even without meeting the Intelligence and Faith requirement, except it bounces back for every hit.

Trivia:

  • In German the sword is called Finstertöter which translates to dark slayer which may be a callback to the counterpart of the moonlight greatsword in king's field The Dark Slayer. The cursed version is called Großschwert von Artorias In German.

Is the inverse also true? Can you meet only the dex/int/fth requirements and be able to use it, or do you still require the 16(2h) / 24(1h) strength?

My warrior has 40 in both her strength and dexterity and I plan on having at least 20 in intelligence and 25 in faith through new game plus. Is this worth using with those stats outside of areas where it's most effective? I already upgraded it fully lol.

If not, I have my trust halberd and black knight halberd I just got

I keep reading posts saying this has 3 versions, but as far as I can tell, there are only 2??? (Standard and cursed)

          • Anonymous

You would think that with 40 in each stat damage will be monstrous. But no. It's good sword but not that great as you would expect. Decent weapon for maxed character that has like 40-50 in all stats but using any other weapon won't make that big diference and it's still worse than regular +15 with weapon buff active. It should be also noted that with 140% divine aux Catacombs and Tomb of the Giants turn into walk in a park since you can one-shot almost everything.

honestly after killing the doggo sif i just had to have him in my blade the great doggo sif lives on in the greatsword, although grinding levels to use it was tedious. I guess i was going to level faith anyway for Solaire so it's not all bad.

beautiful sword, just like the cursed version, and I love how it has its own advantages over the ghost-slaying cursed one. just a shame it's less practical to use

un fact about these weapons for PvP: when used without the faith or int stat requirements the weapon still deals full damage but bounces every time you hit someone. this can be abused with a tech. i call it standstill i dont know the real name but basically if you are put into an animation like the bounce from this weapon hitting a wall getting kicked entering hitstun or waking up from a backstab you simply dont touch any inputs and your immune to backtab attempts for about 2-3 seconds. if someone attempts one the backstab will not be inputted allowing you to punish someone if they go for it. however a good player that stance cancels or kick confirms will just get a stance change or a kick respectively. this weapon isnt actually that good while doing this but its very fun and if the opponent does know about it its pretty effective. but i think the cursed version is better choice for this

How does one use this in a SL 120 build without sacrificing all other stats? I guess if you have only SL 120 you cant really invest much into either int or str you are basically getting 20 of either to just equip the sword?

"It has a hidden passive modifier against Abyss enemies (Darkwraith Knights, The Four Kings)"

Does that also apply to Manus and the Bloatheads?

In all seriousness though, is this weapon worth it? I mean, you pretty much have to completely ruin your build just to get the stats to wield it. It ought to be truly OP

                        • Anonymous

The scaling seems incredible if you have those stats pretty high. Would that not give it higher damage than most other weapons?

                          • Anonymous

I just build a character to try it out... horrible moveset, horrible damage... Just don't bother using this ****.

Such a cool weapon. The stat requirements and scaling for it are really odd tho.

You're forced to either build your character around it from the start OR wait till at least NG+ to fully maximize the GSoA's potential damage output.

I go from 10 equip load to 700 when I equip this, help please. Tried save quitting multiple times and it still happens

So it does magic damage, hits darkwraiths harder, launches enemies with the r2, AND it has a divine modifier? This thing is a veritable swiss army greatsword

                                  • Anonymous

Is there a way to land the R2 attack other than your opponent DC'ing in PVP or the enemy glitching out in PVE ?

So, is there any benefit to having this sword over the cursed version? I see the requirements are higher for this one, but I don't see any real benefit of using this instead of the cursed version.

This sword just looks so damn good. I know people focus on min/maxing and finding the single biggest bonk in the game, but I almost always go for this sword on strength builds because to me, Fashion Souls extends to the weapons as well.

Y'all are really arguing over lore in a game where they call a character big hat logan because he has a big hat

I was planning to do a build with this and miracles or sorcerers. Which one suits this sword better. For pvp and pve.

" Greatsword of Artorias (Cursed) " the name is confusing , you think it is name (cursed ) when you trying to create it , but its not both of them " Greatsword of Artorias " dagger+10 = Greatsword of Artorias physical 178 ( this is the cursed , after you create this you will find in the description says its cursed ) broken straight sword+10 = Greatsword of Artorias physical 120 magic 85 (not cursed )

Is the 4 stats investment really that bad? For a strenght based melee character who only wants to use some utility sorceries (especially in pve) would be that bad a 40 vit/40 end/45 str/18 dex/20 int/20 fth/10 att? Warrior class can achieve this at sl 118 if I'm not mistaken. Is that bad?

                                                • Anonymous

Don't know why it says here that you can make it from Broken Straight Sword +10 or Straight Sword Hilt +10. Haven't checked if that's actually possible but you can also make it from a greatsword +10.

                                                  • Anonymous

Anyone in NG+ or higher that has invested in the four stats that this weapon scales with? If so is it any good?

                                                    • Anonymous

Where's the mention to the damage bonus against dark servants? This version deals exttra damage against darkwraiths, four kings, frampt an kathe

                                                      • Anonymous

I didn't see any references or anything for it but I started using the Greatsword of Artorias +4 for farming Silver Knights in Anor Londo. I got 20% more souls for every kill then I had with my Uchigatana +15

                                                        • Anonymous

Ok has anyone else realized that we have basically the same sword 3 times just in different states of *****ed upness.

                                                          • Anonymous

holy aug, pretty huge damage (PvE anyaway) quite a nice moveset and long reach... only flaw i can see is the HEAVY stat investment this thing calls for... the cursed version is better for PvP but this is the better version in general... (unless you're going AotA where you get the REAL sword of Arty)

                                                            • Anonymous

in Dark souls I, if you overkill an opponent by their hp plus a certain margin you get bonus souls. i think you need to do a single hit damage of the enemy hp value + 20%, but I have never tried to specifically measure it. The 2h power attack on any weapon does the most damage, and likely is enough to overkill the enemies you are fighting.

                                                              • Anonymous

Anyone else notice you get more souls per kill only with the two handed R2 of this weapon? Or is that all special weapons

                                                                • Anonymous

So there seem to be some mixed feelings about this weapon. Allow someone who mains this weapon to shed some light on the subject.

So the (Cursed) version does do more RAW Damage, which is only subject to one type of resistance. So yes for PvP the (Cursed) version is superior.

The above version is a fantastic PvE weapon. What this wiki doesn't tell you is that this sword does extra damage to Darkwraiths and the Four Kings. These are some of the highest magic resistant enemies in the game. (It also does extra damage to NPCs and maybe even PC who are part of the Darkwraith covenant.) Speaking from experience the swords extra damage more than off sets the resistance these foes have.

Also you can off set any Vitality or Endurance neglect by killing Lordric anytime before he kills the fire keeper. I normally do it after the Bell Gargoyles boss.

The Ring of Favor and Protection he drops comes in handy when you need more HP and Stamina than your build allows.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Although it may seem to have AR comparable to that of some UGS's, the split damage means that it is actually slightly weaker than the uncursed ( which is pure phys damage) version (in PvP) at least) as anything with decent phys and mgc defense will lower the damage considerably, and as both damage types will already be lower than other GS's, it will usually come off with less damage per swing. Nice looks though.

                                                                    • Anonymous
