Hints and Tips:

  • Give to Frampt to receive 50 souls.
  • This is a surprisingly useful early-game weapon. Its low skill requirements make it available to all starting classes from the beginning. It has decent damage, good scaling with STR (C), a fast and useful moveset, and little stamina cost. Despite the in-game description, wrong swings do not leave the player any more open to punishment than, say, the Longsword. Hand Axe has a shorter reach than Straight Swords yet has a slightly faster moveset. It also has the ability to break the shield-guard of most enemies with one or two 2H R1 swings. This is especially useful during the early levels of the game, allowing the player to easily break through the shield of Undead Soldiers and even Balder Knights without having to kick them.
  • Atacking shielded enemies while two-handing the Hand Axe does not result in knockback, allowing one to continuously strike at the shield until the enemy's stamina depletes, opening them to a critical attack.
  • Two-handed R1 swing breaks the shield-guard of Undead Soldiers with a single strike. It takes two strikes to do the same to Balder Knights.
  • For STR builds, Hand Axe +5 has a slightly bigger overall damage output than Gargoyle Tail Axe +5. This is because Hand Axe has C scaling with STR while Gargoyle Tail Axe scales with D. This makes Hand Axe the more preferable choice because, despite having a shorter reach, Hand Axe benefits from a similar yet faster moveset, as well as consuming less stamina.

      I think whoever made the enchanted path text literally just copy/pasted it over from magic without actually reading it over.
      "Enchanted Upgrade +1 requires a regular +5 weapon." It requires a +5 magic weapon, not a +5 'regular' weapon. And there is no enchanted +6, nor is the Large Magic Ember required to do so. Makes me wonder if all the other weapons have this copy/paste issue.

          strong weapon for PvP strength builds benefit from using it the most its basically the strength equivalent to a falchion. fast r1s 2 handed. doesnt do the best backstab damage but still good enough. i find it to be best as a toggle option (rh2 slot) hitstun -> toggle -> r1 spam is good. hitstun -> toggle -> find backstab is also good. the weapon also has a fast kick. if you didnt know some weapons have a faster kick than others. hand axe, mace and battle axe have the fastest kick in the game. not sure what other weapons have the fast kick but using kicks with hand axe is very nice. if you kick someone you can kick them again and it combos. meaning you can infinite kick someone in a corner if you want to bully someone. you can kick -> kick to kill with gravity as well. kick is a broken tool and having a fast kick is very very good feeling. overall a romantic weapon for the townshit. optimal damage for this would be on a quality build but i generally just slap it on my strength builds.

            Not too good against regular enemies due to lower damage and stubby range, but great against bosses and such due to being fast and benefitting greatly from 2-handing. Run alongside something like a claymore, the total 8 units in weight is still comparable to heavier weapons and allows for fast roll with the right combination of light armor and equip load boosting rings. Love it so far, helped me against every boss up to iron golem so far and is a great pine resin abuser

              i use strength builds in pvp and dont really like using a ligthinig / chaos dagger in the rh2 for toggle backstabs so i started using this thing. i ****ing love this thing its so fun to use. super cancer too! you can toggle r1 spam you can just pull it out 2h and start r1 spamming toggle backstab alot of option love this thing as a right hand 2 slot for my strength builds

              • Very good PVE weapon with the fast attack speed and axe poise damage. But with the same stamina use per swing as other axes the damage output per stamina is low. So I don't really like it for the very early game.

                    A good weapon with Enchanted +5, its low weight and snappy moveset make it a very desirable weapon for PvE

                      This weapon has a weight value of 2 not 1, was going to use it over the scimitar on a ninja flip havel build, but realized it is too heavy, going to use the scimitar, and either the parrying dagger or dark hand instead

                        This weapon has an excellent moveset. It's fast. And your character does not "unbalance" if you miss an attack.

                          Great weapon to wield in offhand to catch bs fishers or just add damage/stun potential as you weave between the left and right hand attacks of your choosing.

                          • This weapon has become the "Strength" equivalent of the Falchion ever since 4get's video on the Off-Brand(on) build. This weapon is very good and is well deserving of the attention, especially when used with weapon buff spells.

                              The 2H R1s have the same poise break as other axes (53) without the stumble if you miss a swing so with enough poise of your own it’s possible to out-stunlock even GiantDads with this thing, though the damage is kinda low.
