I try not to look anything up but in like 8 playthroughs I had no idea this was here or that there was even anything behind him.
i love how this ring makes anor londo so much easier to get through, but you have to go through anor lando in order to get it. classic fromsoft.

Because it boosts range, you do more damage at the same distance than if you didn't have it. Man, I hate Fextra get rid of those dang question markers. -CA

I obtained it by doing a springing jump from the top of the stairs (just before the railing). Its a hard angle to get but I managed to do it accidentally. Be sure to have a bone.

You can easily get this item by jump attacking (heavy + forward) with your weapon uneqipped. The giant will stand up and you can loot it.

You can in fact get this ring without killing the Giant Blacksmith. Just head to his left and keep walking til you reach the chest. Once done, keep trying to walk in front of the chest while mashing the open button. If you time it right the chest will open, then repeat til you pick up the ring.
Supposedly this works on crossbows but not in very useful way as you're limited to your lock on range. You can shoot it beyond lock range but it's hard to hit anything thats not a giant. A un-upgraded heavy crossbow with heavy bolts does 40 damage to soldiers in the undead burg, while locked on, with or without the Hawk ring, the Leo ring is better for crossbows imho as it doubles thurst damage if timed correctly.
