Heavy Crossbow is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
Powerful large crossbow. While bows require both hands, a crossbow is held in one, but arming each bolt takes time."
How to Get / Where to Find the Heavy Crossbow
- Area just before Gaping Dragon
- Video Location Timestamp 16:28
Note
- Can not be ascended to Chaos or Raw Weapon.
- Give to Frampt to receive 50 souls.
Tips
- The Heavy Crossbow is a weapon with very low stat requirements It's best use is usually found when upgraded along the normal path to +15 and combined with Heavy Bolts as ammunition. A successful strike will stagger most player opponents unless they have extremely high poise. This makes the heavy crossbow particularly effective against mages, who tend to have average-to-low poise as well as the need to stand still while casting spells, and hence can be staggered out of their spell cast animations with a single heavy bolt. It is also very useful for players with higher encumbrance who have difficulty pursuing faster enemies, as it deals significant damage to fleeing opponents if a bolt strikes them in the back. Importantly, the bolts deal thrust damage and therefore benefit from the Leo Ring's bonus to thrust counter damage, making it a very effective and dangerous counter-attack weapon particularly if used off-hand to surprise opponents in general melee. The counter bonus also applies to attacks from computer mobs and bosses, making the heavy crossbow very useful in PvE situations, and can stack with various other damage buffs such as Power Within or the Red Tearstone Ring. Although the range of the heavy crossbow is listed as 50, it continues to deal significant damage even at longer range if the player free aims and arcs bolts down onto the target, permitting the player to aggro or simply kill computer opponents from well beyond their normal aggro range. Heavy bolts are also fairly common and inexpensive, and are available from numerous NPC shopkeepers including the Anor Londo giant, and Marvelous Chester.
- Wearing the Hawk Ring and using Standard Bolts, it is possible to kill a Royal Sentinel with +10 Heavy crossbow with only 9 shots outside their aggro range, making it a safe, decent tactic to farm Titanite Chunks.

Best crossbow. I shot Kalameet down with this, no Gough required. Avelyn is nice, if, the enemies weren't moving so much. Sniper crossbow is just purely terrible, it is too heavy, took too long to fire, and the scope that can't aim, I have enough with it. And it is better than small crossbow.

Been farming with this and red eye ring. Pretty strong. At +10 I can hit a drake in 6. Now I upped it to +15 and it is my main farming weapon for strong mobs now. 1 hit 300, 4 hits for a drake, if lucky headshot then just 2 hits. Actually now that I think about it, this is already close to my +5 dragonslayer bow. And with wood bolt btw.
You can aim crossbow using a bow in your off hand, the bolt will fly a bit below the left-under stick on the crosshair. It is very simple, barely much more time than firing an arrow, more dmg, faster than using bow which make cheesing more enjoyable. You can also use crossbow to shoot from a corner while ranged enemies can't shoot you from there, because only your hand is outside.

I was using one of my cracked red eye orbs in anor Londo for one of my first times, and then I got pelted by this crossbow from a sunlight warrior who was inches away from me.

Don't upgrade the Heavy Crossbow to Crystal.
I figured "Why not, it's a friggen crossbow, it won't get damaged in battle like a sword." That's mostly true, but somewhere between clamshell enemies at ash-lake and Seath's Crystal cave; and the acid-spitting worms in Lost Izalith/Demon ruins, they broke my Crystal heavy crossbow. Now I gotta use the damn Sniper Crossbow...
