Humanity

2112

Rare tiny black sprite found on corpses. Use to gain 1 humanity and restore a large amount of HP.
This black sprite is called humanity, but little is known about its true nature.
If the soul is the source of all life, then what distinguishes the humanity we hold within ourselves?

Humanity is a Consumable in Dark Souls.

Notes

  • The more Humanity one has in the counter by their health bar, the higher some resistances are.
  • Humanity in the counter also increases Curse resistance to a high degree the more one has.
  • Humanity also greatly increase Item Discovery hardcapping at 10 Humanity in the counter granting 210 Item Discovery.
  • Humanity is the primary component of the Chaos upgrade path's power with the max damage bonus being received  at 10 Humanity held in the counter.
  • A great tactic is to obtain the Dark Hand as soon as one can as NPCs that are Humanoid characters like Petrus hold a good amount of Humanity that can be absorbed.
  • For characters that are encountered sitting, kicking them with cause  them to stand up. Using the Force Miracle works as well if one fears miss-clicking a kick and attacking said character.
  • In addition to what is mentioned above, using the Kick maneuver or the Force Miracle deal no damage to said characters and does not incur a sin. Using the Dark Hand's Absorb grab-attack does not deal damage to targets either, however it does cause the NPCs to speak as if they were attacked. This is not a cause for alarm as no damage is being done and it does not incur a sin as long as the grab connects and animation plays.  Make sure to be on even ground and close to the target.
  • Humanity can be conveniently farmed infinitely at the last bonfire at the end of the Artorias of the Abyss DLC in the final area leading up to Manus, Father of the Abyss.

I literally only used them to kindle bonfires. I now have every bonfire with 10 estus for NG+. I'm thinking of upgrading that number for NG++

Giantdad build + Bass cannon, go to the partially submerged area with pinwheel servants past Tomb of Giants and let baby skeletons spawn. With covetous gold serpent ring and min 10 humanity (max item discovery), let a large horde of them spawn, don't use lock-on and dispatch with a single swipe. Immediately start spamming action whilst running around where they die, you can farm a **** ton of them. You just have to make sure you're spamming your action button because the humanity they drop will disappear after a second or two. I was able to farm a whole 99 in about 40 minutes with little risk of damage to myself minus toxic status, so have moss covered purple clumps in inventory.

ive always loved the twist of dark souls, that being the good guys are shrouded in darkness, while those who are evil usually cling to the light of the fire. unless youre solaire of course.

How do you know you're endgame character?

When you have 99 soft humanity, 99 humanity in storage and 99 humanity in inventory so you start using it to heal instead of estus.

Symbol of avarice, 10 'equiped' humanity, Chasm of the Abyss... I managed to get a very large amount of humanities and twin humanities in just a couple of hours. I had 99 equiped, 99 in the bottemless box, around 40 loose humanities, and around 50 twin humnities. Granted this is late game stuff, but I wanted to be ready for ng+!

You guys have no idea about Dark Souls until you play the original version, on disk, no internet and no patches. Thats where to find the best dark souls experience

Since this is one of limited consumables, I did not use them, lol, you know because they are limited... I am about to complete NG+ and I have TONS of humanity in my bag, maybe I will give em to frampt on NG+2 to feed him. I prefer looking hollow wearing hollow soldier armor along with a *****ing ultra greatsword. No humanity needed.

For anyone who cares enough this is my data set for depths rat farming with Covetous ring and 10 humanity (410 item discovery)

I've been farming the Depths bonfire by the big rat that was in the sewer for humanity. At least 9 rats spawn in groups and 1 in the crate. You can just run down, kill them, and run back to the fire and reset. I'm using the Covetous Serpent ring, which is probably the best item in the game. The farm starts out pretty slow at 1 humanity per 3-4 runs but just use the humanity every time you get it until you have 10 and your item discovery is 410, I get about 1 humanity every 1-2 runs average. For some reason, Humanity is just super rare, unless you actually find people that will summon you on boss fights (Which is limited by level, btw.). Or unless you are a god and never die in the game.

For each humanity used, the number on the left upper corner climbs.
The chance of discovering items upon killing enemies is higher.
