Katanas are a Weapon Category in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered. Katanas are fast-swinging weapons for their long range of motions. Dealing Slash and Thrust damage, Katanas can also inflict Bleed. The inherent sharpness of the blade has the disadvantage of having low durability. Katanas are primarily Dexterity weapons that can also be wielded as left-handed weapons and used to Parry.

  • Pros: Far-reaching and fast swing motions, dealing mainly Slash damage, with added Bleed. Great Dexterity scaling, moderate weight. Can be used to parry.
  • Cons: Poor durability, limited selection.

All of these can be obtained in blight town except chaos blade, although you get chaos blade from Quelaag's soul and she is found in blight town.

Michael Zaki intentionally put every single katana in the game in blight town as a subtle reference to the fact that katana's are a blight and belong in the sewage

In my opinion, the only good katana on the game is the chaos blade, because it has consistent damage becuz of humanity, obviously bleeding damage and dex

I'm a big fan of katanas and was using dual Washing Poles for a while because why not. But for endgame I ended up using Murakumo for its high Dex scaling.

In itself I think the weapons are good, I just don't like the attack animation. If you consider that you need high dexterity to be able to skillfully use katanas, the player performs the blows very clumsily. Most attack***** the ground and luckily that doesn't come at the expense of the weapon’s durability. It's a shame that, unlike spells, the attack speed of dexterity-based weapons is not influenced by high dexterity.

I just use the Uchigatana with the other katanas as parry tools. I’m a weeb so I’ve always found the dual katana look to be pretty killer.

Is two-handing a katana making a character move noiseless? In Oolacile Township, right after the bonfire, there are four residents (down the stairs), faced back to the player. If I go there with a sword and a shield, they aggro when I'm on the stairs. But when I handle a katana with two hands, I can move freely behind their backs and they don't seem to notice me. I checked (for now) only in this one place, with Iaito, Uchigatana and Washing Pole, and it doesn't work with another swords.

Essentially the uchigatana does more immediate damage than the iaito but the iaito on the other hand I believe uses less stamina and can strike faster they both do pretty good damage though I’m my opinon

Katana is ds1 and 2 completely outclass the ones in ds3 I mean jesus these things are fast, hit pretty hard, cause bleed build up and you don't need luck to make the bleed worth a damn not only that they are so slow and easy to parry in ds3 that it's more risky to use the weapon than to use literally anything else it's like the developers had something against them is ds3

The ichigatana does more Damage at base then the Iaito, but the Iaito has a higher stat need. Does the Iaito get better then the uchi with higher stats? Or is the uchi better regardless
