Longsword is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
Widely-used standard straight sword, only matched in ubiquity by the shortsword."
"An accessible sword which inflicts consistent regular damage and high slash damage, making it applicable to a variety of situations."
How to Get / Where to Find the Longsword
- Default equipment for the Warrior class.
- Purchased from Andre of Astora (1,000 Souls).
- Drops from Undead Soldiers (Sword) (2% drop chance - Undead Burg, Undead Parish, Northern Undead Asylum (Return), Firelink Shrine).
Hints and Tips:
- Can be given to Kingseeker Frampt to receive 50 Souls.
- The Longsword sports a good combination of low weight, low stamina cost, very low stat requirements, and reasonable damage output to go along with its balanced moveset.
- As with many other straight swords, the Longsword's first strong (R2) attack is a forward thrust that deals good damage and can benefit from the Leo Ring. Longsword's second strong (R2) attack is an upward sweep action that runs from the end of the thrust attack animation.
- The speed of the second upwards thrust can make the longsword very dangerous in experienced hands: if the initial thrust connects, a second, equally damaging second attack can be landed almost immediately. This is particularly effective on targets with low Poise that can be staggered by the initial attack. Stamina cost and the possibility of targets evading the opening thrust makes this a high risk, high reward tactic.
- The second upwards thrust is not blocked by shields, so if you make the first thrust just out of range of the enemy, the second thrust will hit him through his shield. Excellent in PvP, but takes practice to be perfect. If executed improperly, can offer the enemy an opening to get behind you for a backstab.

Right now I'm at about 25 strength and 14 dexterity (soon 15 dex), would this be better than the balder side sword because of its mixed strength/dex scaling? Or would it be worth upping my dex some more to really take advantage of that weapon? What are the pros and cons of each?

The standard weapons in Dark Souls have the highest potential for damage output. For instance, the Longsword and Broadsword are the highest damage straight swords. The Dagger and Rapier have 130 critical modifiers. The Uchigatana deals the most consistent DPS out of the Katanas.

This weapon's usefulness in many areas is actually pretty realistic, all things considered. It might not be as flashy as your bigass dragon tail greatsword or your lightning katana, but it's still very much a sword and very capable of cutting you to pieces. Not like ancient people fought with magic weaponry.

this is an amazing weapon, in my current main I started by doing a fth/str build with 50/50 for the grant (massive divine warhammer) and sunlight spear, I am now closer to level 600, I have switched away from grant to Artorias's greatsword because of great scaling with 99 in almost every stat, plus RP purposing, I used this weapon in my NG and NG+ playthroughs (I'm on NG+11 now) and man is it amazing, I tried going for the claymore but a +15 longsword with crystal weapon and sunlight blade is unbelievably op, I cannot stress how much I love this weapon, I've used it for all of NG+4 and up due to it's fast timing and recovery, and because it can apply the buff so many times it's insane, it's also hilarious when entering an AotA arena and watching the reaction of a high level character's HP get melted by this thing, 99 vit + FaP? no problem!

I will argue that this weapon with Regular +15 is one of the best weapons for Quality Builds in PVP. One-handed is so fast, you’ll get two hits in before any greatsword lands one.

Good moveset but it have a mediocre scaling, if upgraded in regular path. I used that sword enchanted +5, with a high int character, and I enjoyed it a lot. Probably my third favorite weapon in DS1

Truly, the love of my life and a fantastic sidearm when you're carrying something else, like a Halberd as well. Easy to dismiss due to how it looks so unimportant and like your usual early-game stock weaponry soon to be discarded, but no, this wonderful thing will carry you through the whole game with no trouble. It's a seriously amazing weapon, it has a great utilitarian moveset, low stamina cost, great speed, low weight and requirements, it has everything you would ever need, while still being a beautiful piece of work. It's only flaw might be not having a second stab to capitalize on the Leo Ring like the BSS does, but it's still a magnificent weapon to invest in, it will never let you down. It's just like Dark Souls to hide such a wonderful thing under such a mundane appearance. Longsword is love, longsword is life.
