Sin |
---|
Players commit a Sin when they commit an act of hostility against certain NPCS, act against the terms of their Covenant, or when they are indicted for invading other players online. |
Sin is a gameplay mechanic in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
General Information for Sin:
- Sin is incurred when a player does specific actions. There are two different kinds of sin: PvE and Sin in PvP.
PvE Sin
You will acquire NPC Hostility Sin by doing the following:
- Anger an NPC by attacking them and damaged over 10% of their HP or killing them.
- Anger a Covenant leader by doing something against their approval.
- Angering Alvina of the Darkroot Wood.

PvP Sin

- Being indicted by another player online which will give you +1 sin, and will leave you open to invasions from the Blade of the Dark Moon faction.

What's so hard to understand here? It's clear as day: if you behave like a dck, you re treated/punished like one. That's what sin is.

This page explains sin.....without explaining what it is....

Angering Gwyndolin is either not a sin or either a permanent sin because I accidentally went through the wall being a dumb dumb and now I can’t resolve my sin so it’s either a permanent or not a sin at all

This site is a bit confusing so let's say it simpler shall we?
1. What is a Sin in DS?
+ PvE Sin not actually a sin. It's just common name for flag or trigger in game logic checking that you angered certain npc. If you anger npc he will be hostile or won't talk to you. You can clear all of this flags by taking to Oswald and paying him so all the angered npcs will forgive you and act as nothing happened. Nothing more to say about it.
+ PvP Sin is 'the' actual sin and it will make you appear in the Book of Guilty. You get it by breaking Covenants (not leaving them but breaking(!) by for example atacking a npc that is leader or member if you are member as well). You also get this Sin for invading other players but only if they indict you upon being killed.
2. What are consequences of being in the Book of Guilty?
Practically? None. Sin is simple mechanic allowing invasions by Darmoon Blades. So having one it's not a big issue at all. I mean if you run around in human form and play online you will be constantly attacked by Darkwraiths anyway so adding Darkmoons invasions to the pile doesn't actually change anything since you can be invaded only once at a time and then invasion cooldown starts.
3. Is it worth to get a Sin?
Yes it is! Getting a sin is only way to get Ninja Flip Ring since you have betray Forest Hunter covenant. But before you do that it's worth to do some invasions as one of them so you can get Ring of Fog (overpowerded for casters in PvE) and some titanites very early in the game. You can also invade as red phantom (using any of 3 possible methods) for farming humanity and as gray (or whatever you call color of Path of the Dragon invaders) phantom for farming Dragon Scales. You also get souls from every invasion you complete. So yeah. It's surely worth to get your hands dirty and end up in the Book of Guilty!
4. How to clear a SIn?
Getting killed by Darkmoon invader or dying any other way when at least one of those invaders is present in your world. For every single Sin you have to be killed once that way. But as I mentioned above there is no reason for intentionally clearing them since if you are not invaded by Darkmoon you will be invaded by Darkwraith sooner or later anyway so it's not a big deal. If you don't want invasions at all stay in hollow form or play offline.
