Unless you want to cosplay Solaire there's nothing special about this sword. Game descriptions says it clearly - whole Solaire's gear is nothing special since everything came from his skills rather than having some crazy magical stuff.
Actually straight swords are mainly crappy weapons (maybe with the exception of BSS) because they're balanced and that makes them actually not that good. In Dark Souls you either go for long chain of very quick hits (usually with bleed) or slower but stronger attack with heavy poise damage. Straight swords are slower than fast spamming weapons and lack poise damage of bigger weapons.
If you looking for quality build sword great swords and ultra great swords should be your choice.
Ah yeah of course. If you are pr0 git gut and crazy ninja stuff etc. you will of course kill anyone and everything with any straight sword +0. But generally for most players they're simply poor choice. Deal with it.

Have played every Souls game and came back to remastered to do the DLC. Doing a faith build this time so decided to kill Solaire early for his gear at the Undead Burg. I wish I didn't. Quite possibly the most heartbreaking "betrayal" dialogue I've heard.

what would be better: have a +5 enchanted Sunlight Straight Sword or use the Spells magic weapon and great weapon?
- Anonymous
hey, quick question. would it be better to have this at normal +15 with sunlight blade or as a +10 divine? assuming im running a mostly faith build, thanks

- Anonymous
Get it to +15 and cast Sunlight Blade with at least 50 faith for over 800 AR

so.. what is good about this weapon? I heard it's useful for faith builds, but i just don't see why it should be better than other straight swords

I'm doing a faith build and I'm looking for a good sword... Then I thought: let's kill the fair lady,I need a fire keeper soul... Then I noticed that I will use solaire sword,i didn't offer her 30 humanity...

First time playing I had no idea that the red-eyed Sunlight Maggot was what triggered Solaire going nuts; I wound up preventing it by pure accident because I was in the Chaos Servants. On a later playthrough I didn't do this, though, and found out the hard way what happens... ... Rest in peace, dear friend. Your gear may not seem like much to the untrained eye, but I will bear it as a memento and a reminder. Although there is a somewhat nice silver lining here - I can make this an Occult weapon, which not only capitalizes on my high Faith but also does more damage to O&S. We shall take them on together in NG+ as fellow warriors of the Sun!

It seems to be best small occult weapon, good scalings and length, lighter than dark sword. Is it really lacks occult effect?

As fitting, I outfitted it with Divine Enchantment to brave the Catacombs.

So I killed him thinking he was useless then I learned that he could be summoned for boss fights and I started crying

Broadsword meets Longsword, use only if you wish to be Grossly Incandescent. xD
- Anonymous
At least this a reason to do it. My friend killed him just because he could.

The extra weight unit and having to kill Solaire for it make this a really hard sell when I can have a perfectly good Longsword readily available and without having to kill a dear friend. Sure it has a bit more damage, but is it really worth the price?

Should give you more souls when giving to frampt. Like 20000 maybe because Solaire was a good man.
