Zweihander is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
One of the gigantic straight greatswords. As the name suggests, the Zweihander is held with two hands, but its wielder must still be inhumanly strong."
"It is this great weight that sends foes flying when hit solidly."
How to Get / Where to Find the Zweihander
- Obtained from a corpse in the Graveyard area behind Firelink Shrine, in front of the large tombstone at the farthest end to the right of the stairs leading downwards, protected by two Skeletons and a Giant Skeleton, lying dormant.
- Video Location Timestamp 1:28
Hint and Tips:
- The light attacks are wide sweeps.
- The heavy attacks are overhead slams, which are capable of knocking down enemies.
Notes:
- High damage and high stagger weapon.
- Easily obtained very early on in a playthrough and suitable for endgame.
- The lightest of the ultra greatswords.
- Can be sold to Kingseeker Frampt for 50 souls.

Overall one of the best PvE weapons. Very easy to get, the running 2hR1 and standing 2hR2 will stagger even very large enemies, including Gwyn himself. Classic weapon.

Zwei is a Quality weapon. Very good one. Chaos/Light is ok when you are running with 16 Str and 10 Dex. But if you want get real damage make it to +15 Regular and invest some points into Str and Dex.
- Anonymous
"Generally seen as low tier in more competitive PvP [...]"
Whoever wrote this has absolutely no clue about the real strength of a Zwei. It has the ability to easily stunlock you, especially when your opponent mess up with the positioning or with a failed parry attempt. Some people are trying to roll bs you, because the weapon is slow? Just lock off your target and simply swing it in the opposite direction you are currently facing. Boom stunlocked 99.9%.
Make sure that you don't infuse the Zwei with Chaos, because the split damage won't give you enough power, when you manage to stunlock your target. Just run a normal Quality Build with 27 Strength and 45 Dex as this weapon is a natural Quality weapon, which gives you around 612 Damage, which is also around 10% more damage than the Murakumo. The only reason why the Murakumo was so popular is simply because people could cheat with dead angles, which are now gone. Running a Quality Build with 45 Dex gives you the opportunity to fast cast with your Pyromancy Flame, giving you the true combo kick + flame.
The Meme build (Giant Dad) makes this weapon look bad. But in the right hands, the Zwei is truly a powerful weapon.

Vinheim Dragon School, question form final year's exam:
You are lone sorcerer with Moonlight Greatsword as your main weapon. Enemy with high magic protection stands in your way. What do you do?
A) Charge and die with honor on battlefield.
B) Teleport out or run away as fast as you can.
C) Keep distance and use your strongest spells to defeat enemy.
D) Switch to Chaos/Lighting/Fire Zweihander and turn enemy into pancake with R2.
- Anonymous
If you have at least 16 STR and 10 DEX (but don't tell anyone you leveled that up) it's always handy to keep Chaos Zweihander +5 in inventory. You don't have to use it all the time but there are many slow AI enemies that are weak against fire and best tactic to fight them is keeping them stunlocked to interupt their every attack. This is the moment where chaoshander kicks in. Low requirements, devastating poise damage and decent physical and fire damage on top. Lightning path is also great for this.
- Anonymous
This thing is an absolute poise-destroyer, the two-handed R2s pancake almost everything and any most things that don't get pancaked, usually get stunned, the R2 is surprisingly fast for an attack of its power although it does less damage than the R2s of the others in its class the superior speed and ridiculous poise damage more than make up for that shortcoming, It's capable of stunlocking things with its R2s that even the Dragon Tooth, Great Club or most great hammers wouldn't be capable of stunning, hell I somehow pancaked goddamn Havel of all people with it once, make no mistake, even ignoring the memes this weapon is insanely good for how early you can get it
- Anonymous
lightning infused because i want to kindle all bonfires save solaire not have to go in the laval also chaos +5 with 10 humanity only deal 27 more damages than the lightning infused and lightning is stronger in PVP.

Ah the beautiful and mighty Zweihander, Pancake-maker extraordinaire

"Acceptable early game weapon" As if this thing isn't an absolute beast that arguably triviliazes most of the game as soon as you get it and steadily keep upgrading it, Almost as if the person who wrote the info part died to a giant dad one too many times and is salty about it

Is there any where to get a 2nd one in game besides NG+? I have a +15 one but want to make a chaos one as well, guess I need to go to NG+

It should be Zweihänder and not Zweihander

I like how the Hints and Tips are comparing it to the Murakumo even though they are entirely different, comparing a dex focused curved gs to a strength scaling ultra gs is pretty stupid.

Many new players ask - "what's the best weapon for PvE?" Many players respond something "it depends on your playstyle since there is no best weapon blah blah blah". Yo! People! Stop repeating this crap! It's totally bullsh*t!
There are simple rules when it comes to PvE and most AI controled enemies:
- Use something with long range so you can attack and don't get hit yourself
- Use something with wide attack so you can hit many enemies
- Use something dealing high poise damage to stunlock enemies and block their attacks
- Use something hitting hard since best tactic is usually dodge/block and attack at right moment so big damage is advised
Zweihander has all of this. Zweihander can be found at the begining of the game and will kill most common enemies in 1-3 hits (as long as you keep it upgrading with game progress). Zweihander requires only 16 STR to be used in both hands (24 if you want use shield in second hand).
Use light attack for wide shlashes with decend speed, range, damage and staggering effect. Use strong attack for slow and mighty death from above smash with great hp and poise damage.
As long as you put points in Endurance Chaos/Lightning Zweihander is one of the best PvE weapons for casters.
- Anonymous
All the memes aside, this is a very strong melee weapon especially considering how easy it is to obtain and how low the stat requirements are. You only need 16 Strength if you twohand, which is something you can achieve before venturing out Firelink Shrine for the first time. It's an immensely powerful weapon in the early game and still great later even though other colossal weapons will feature better scaling with high Strength.

Is this a page talking **** about the zweihander? Outdone by the murakumo? This is some dumb ****.

Is it worth it to turn my +10 zweihander into artorias's greatsword?

Why is zwei low tier for pvp when all the things the author is complaining about are a much bigger issue in the murakumo which they suggest as an alternative?

this weapon + red tearstone ring + gold pine resin = 2 bells ringed in less than 5 hours
- Anonymous
It is unacceptably slow even for PVE.
If your enemy is not single, then you will be probably dead because enemies will definitely hit you when you are trying to swing this (or strong attack that's not the case)
- Anonymous
let us put aside our arguments of giantdad (LEGEND NEVER DIES) and dex Vs STRENGTH [T]/ to say that this is a good weapon for a lot of builds. cmon guys we all have one thing in common dont we? we all like this game and play it in our own ways.
- Anonymous
Let's assume, for the sake of the argument, that you could one-hand a Zweihander. In that case, hypotethically speaking of course, you could two-hand a Dreihander
- Anonymous
I replay DS1 every now and then, I tried a lot of different builds but there's one "comfy" build I always come back to : start as a bandit with the master key > pick up the Zveihander (use the XP from the tutorial to level STR and DEX so I can wield it before leaving the shrine) > get the ring of favor > get the havel ring > go to the darkroot garden to get the knight armor > get the crest shield. All of this can be done in an hour or two, later on I replace the knight armor with Havel's armor and I become pretty much invincible at that point.
It get going VERY early, it's OP, and it's the build that represent the first game of the serie the best with the broken poise, slow movement and absurd strength damage.

This ''weapon'' has shorter range than demon's spear, doesn't hit as hard as demon's greataxe and not even fast like uchigatana.
TRASH!!!!!
- Anonymous
As a fresh Casul, I have a humble question: the damage of the Chaos-Zwei is really impressive, but can I also use it to injure opponents who are immune to fire? So spider witch and CD?
- Anonymous
PVE it's a great weapon probably one of the best. PVP I'd say it's a mid-tier weapon? maybe good, is not a bad weapon but not Top Tier for sure.
If you choose to fight with this on PVP you must learn to go Unlock sometimes; because Lock fighting an opponent with a Zweidi it's quite dangerous. The weapon is kind of slow, that makes it parryable (and all around punishable), it has the same issues that all Ultra Greatswords have: they force you to a certain style of fighting (same can be said about all weapons but is more noticeable with greatswords I think) but this style can really surprise some players.
On the good side, is very powerful, the moveset is ok, and its fantastic for Dead Angles (probably among the best weapons doing that) I've seen players doing amazing things with Lock/Unlock play with a Zweidi. And is always fun.

giantdad memes aside lets admit this is a great weapon, its simple yet reliable moveset just smashes through bosses and its damage on ANY upgrade path is superb, plus its low stat requirements to 2hand make it an excellent option for any quality/str build ZWEIS FOREVER
- Anonymous
I remember using the zweihander. It was a really good weapon, even though I had to two-hand it because I didn't meet the strength requirement.
- Anonymous
This is just as much cancer as dark bead or gold tracer or falchion. Any scrub that relies on this has no right to whine and complain about other forms of cancer. But just to be real, most builds have some kind of gimmick they rely upon to be successful, it's just some require more IQ than others to operate proficiently. I can't complain about this weapon choice, it helped me master the toggle escape technique.

My fav. My 1st playthrough I went in blind and this can make alot of the game cake with 2handed flattening. I also liked halberd lucerne anddragon slayer. Undeadlord sword I liked on many bosses. Warpick for 1handed. .

I've always made a habit of picking up the first large weapon I could find in this game and it's sequals, and stick with it for an entire playthrough, learning all I can about wielding it, and ignoring all other weapons... (With some exceptions, like magic or bows)
Good old Zweihander here saw me through the entire game, never even needed a grass crest shield or anything to do with a giant or havel armor set, nor a wolf ring. Also managed to learn a few ways to avoid the back-poking meta.

Im on my first playtrough ever, i got to the gargoyle boss fight. The claymore does 33 dmg +0,straighr sword does 19 +0 and the zweihander does 75 +0. Moveset is boring, but it's just too op not to use
- Anonymous
i just feel so happy that a normal metal blade is the best of its category im a fan of simple things not those fancy blades which look weird now just look at moon light gs that aint no sword thats just mineral lol which is supposed to be crafted upon the second you cut that traitors tail?dunnow about you but i like simplicity about blades
- Anonymous
Pros: Good damage, good range, looks badass af, and has a badass name.
Cons: SLOW AF and has little variety in it's moveset.
Conclusion: Overall it's a decent weapon but it's not the best. I prefer the Claymore over this because the Claymore is faster and has a more versatile moveset.

European swords that were mainly wielded with both hands were called "Zweihänder". The variation ranges from the hand and a half sword and late medieval long sword, which were not much larger than classic one-handed knight swords, to the mighty Renaissance "Bidenhänder". The first two-handed swords appeared in the High Middle Ages, but this type of sword experienced its heyday in the late Middle Ages. Another name of this great sword was "Gassenhauer" (Alley Beater). The Zweihander was often used like a lance in narrow passages and alleys.
- Anonymous
Why does it say "regular" attack, you would think that a rolling attack would be a stronger R2 attack, but you end up doing a trust, why?
- Anonymous
At first I was very skeptical about this sword but after using it for a while and getting used to the moveset I don't want to take it off. Of course, it is anything but optimal when fighting in confined spaces (for this I use the parrying dagger or Pierce Shield or lure opponents into open terrain). But the most satisfying thing is still to turn everything and everyone into pancakes with a peppy two-handed R2. But shhht, don't tell anyone I leveled dexterity.
