On the balcony overlooking the garden, right after you exit the prison, look up and to the left. Near the edge of the tower wall, you can see a dark patch of mist in the distance. If you use binoculars to zoom in, it looks like a window or door floating far off in midair.
Shortcut back to prison: from the bonfire overlooking the garden go back through the bookshelf shortcut and climb up the ladder again. Head onto the spinnable staircase and spin it around, then go down to the other side and you'll see a path leading outside. That's the way back to the prison area. (of course, if you rested then you'll have to battle all the baddies on this route again)
whoever wrote this is awful at directions. I guess that's what happens when a generation is raised on GPS, zero situational awareness and can't convey simple directions.
This guide was so bad that I was looking for help with the rotating stairs puzzle and lost 30K souls and my humanity just because there's so much meandering. There needs to be a TLDR version lol
This area was cool on my very first playthrough in 7th grade, after that it's just been insufferable. The buffed archers and channelers sniping me is just the worst, especially on sl1
I did both the golden fog gate skip and seath skip for this area. You can check those out on youtube. I did this since I wanted to join Kaathe and his dankwraiths, but I need to kill Sif to do that, and I don't want to kill Sif before I did the DLC and get the alternate cutscene. The seath skip was totally unnecessary, but I see it is not breaking any game physics so I just went ahead and do it anyway. Was in NG+, never died to Seath, already got his tail last time so I just went full Gwyn on his dragon tentacles from afar. Doing the Seath skip will make the bookcase on 2nd floor to not open, so to go back you need to drop from the rotating stair, oh and get that Avelyn too. You can just go back up to the crystal room, Seath is already dead so no more mandatory death, going up there and kill yourself to be transported to the cell. You can also warp with the lordvessle by going outside the cell and sit behind the bars, devs only made it unwarpable from inside. Also, I dunno if it requires dying or you just need to go in the crystal room to open the 2nd floor bookcase, sorry I dumdum didn't check. I went outside the cell, up the ladder, and the big door was already open without me getting the key. Logan was also out of his cell already the moment I got down there to check on him, I didn't even open the cell yet. So I assume this is possible just by going back to the crystal room and either warp back to bonfire or just go back down the elevator.
I wish the enemy placement wasn't complete trash here because this is one of the coolest looking areas in all of the souls games, shame that such a nice place had to be brought down by archers that deal 900 damage per shot
I´ve played this area before knowing anything about the first battle with Seath, so in the first battle istead of dying I used a homeward bone, but that made me stuck in the game because the elevator that guides me to the first seath battle is not coming anymore, so I can´t procced the area, and the game. If anyone know how to solve my problem i would like to know, if there´s no solution please put an aware in this seccion to NOT use a homeward bone in the first battle with seath, thank you dark souls.
I like the layout of this area, and the 'prison break' is certainly cool, but the incredibly annoying enemy placement (freaking buffed archers) and backtracking just make it blehhh
After defeating seath if you go back to the room where you were killed ( big fat logan might be there to kill you ), if you go up the stairs to the right and turn back there is a corpse with soul of a great hero( didn't find it in the wiki of both archives and crystal cave so commenting here )
The second boar, the one around the corner where you can't hit him, can be pulled by throwing an Alluring Skull in the corner opposite of him. you get one or possibly more free hits on him this way!
"This room contains a shortcut on the 1st floor back to the initial room that you entered after the fateful elevator ride into the Archives. There is also a shortcut back to the Prison Tower from this room - go up the main stairs to the 2nd floor (not the rotating stairway) and you will find a quick return route to free Big Hat Logan"
I must be super lost or literally getting rickrolled everytime I try to "drop down to that ledge." Because I just drop to my death. I appreciate the guides but I'm sure English isn't the first language for whoever jams it up...
i had the most peculiar bug and i have no idea what caused it (during my first playthrough [still within my first one right now]) when i arrived in the cell, the alarm cinematic played, the pisacas went out in the cinematic, but when i gained control of my character the alarm was already off and the pisacas were in their pen. i wish i knew what caused it so i could replicate it in subsequent playthroughs, if anybody knows anything about this bug/glitch please let me know
There is a bug and i wonder if anyone else have encountered this. In dark souls prepare to die edition as you die by seath, you get stuck in the loading screen, no matter what. This happened to me twice, ruining my play through and yes i waited a really long time before restarting the game but as i run my save, the loading screen just wont end. I guess its just my game or my pc acting fun but if anyone knows the cause or the fix, please tell me.
I tested ring of fog. It is more manageable killing the Pisces this way, but you gotta get rid of them pretty quick at first because a group of four, not two, will come at you. There will be a pair coming up and then about three yards behind them is another pair, so in order for this to work I found it is more effective to two hand your weapon when dealing with the first two, to get them out of the way quickly so you can focus on the next two. After that, simply continue down the staircase and they will come at you in pairs which is much easier to handle. Another way to go about this is to equip both the fog ring and the slumbering dragon crest ring, if you do it this way you can pick them off with a bow and grab their attention one by one
At the part where getting yourself killed while in the prison cell to turn the alarm off you only have to go through a loading screen, so a homeward bone or homeward miracle could be used instead of killing yourself.
One way to deal with the boars is to run past them and go up the stairs to the left in the room with the bonfire. If you lure them up there they won't be able to get to you because of the pillar and railing for the elevator. You can sit there and whittle down their health by attacking in between their attacks.
The farming section at the end isn't advisable. The Darkroot Garden guardians are far safer, faster, and comparable in soul output (about 8600 per 1.5 minute run with Silver Serpent Ring, even more with the Symbol of Avarice). If you desperately need humanity, take a little time to start the DLC (it's short and you can definitely handle it at this stage of the game). In the Chasm of the Abyss area there are slow-moving humanity ghosts in big numbers, tightly packed, that you can kill with very little risk and farm tons of humanity (and twin humanity!) in a very short period of time.
It took me forever to figure out wtf “Secret Library” is mentioned in the guide. There’s nothing secret about it, you just walk right in the same as the rest of the library. It’s the same room as the four chests you open...
great place to farm humanity with the serpent ring ... when you walk out of your cell go all the way down and kill the blue things.. im getting atleast one humanity per run
To get the avelyn from the chest on top of the bookshelf, rotate the stairs and run up to top then roll off of them onto the balcony below. Next just walk off the edge and ull land on the bookshelf.
If I finish Siegmeyer of Catarina's quest-line before heading to the inner garden of The Duke's Archives, will the golden crystal golem in the center of the garden disappear?
"There is also a shortcut back to the Prison Tower from this room - go up the main stairs to the 2nd floor (not the rotating stairway) and you will find a quick return route to free Big Hat Logan" so vague lol.
I didn't get the cutscene that the man-serpent should pull the lever..i wen down, kill all enemies and pull the lever by myself but the sad part is that the pisaca's big door won't budge and they're all aggro inside that door (i'm assuming the lever is also the unlock mechanism of that door)

What is that?
