Clan of Forest Protectors is an Enemy in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered. Enemies are hostile creatures that respawn when players rest at a Bonfire or upon death. Special enemies that do not respawn are classified as Bosses, Mini Bosses or Invaders.

Clan of Forest Protectors Description

Under the command of Alvina, these warriors have sworn to protect the Darkroot Garden from grave robbers.

Strategy

  • The semi-invisible knights do NOT respawn and should therefore be taken care of first, carefully
  • Then kill the ranger, she is slightly more to the right then most.
  • Once you have dispatched of the knights and ranger, you have an area with relatively easy enemies to farm.
    • One small reminder. Take each of the Forest Hunters on ONE AT A TIME. This is especially problematic with the cleric, since the Thief will come to assist him.
  • Easy way to kill them is to pull all of them run back to where the sealed gate is and go onto the end of the ledge to the right of the stairs. If they are not ranged fighters they will run off the edge.
    • Even the Mage can run over the ledge, though sometimes he just stands there near the bottom of the stairs casting spells constantly, where when you're standing in the very corner, he won't be able to hit you.
  • Alternatively, if you want to avoid fighting against them, you can run past them, talk to Alvina of the Darkroot Wood and join the Forest Hunter covenant, this causes them to retreat and become friendly.

Note

  • From NG and onward they yield significantly higher souls, around 6000 a piece excluding the bandit. This makes them a very easy target for soul farming. The reward being around 21000 souls per run, symbol of avarice and silver serpent ring combined can make for very fast soul farming, with a bonfire being very close by to boot.
  • They are friendly to members of the Forest Hunter covenant.
  • If you attack them while being a member of the Forest Hunter covenant, it counts as a betrayal and breaks the covenant, causing them to become hostile.

Tip: If you are invader you can be fully healed to max hp by cleric npc aoe heal since game threats you as mob enemy. But he has to be damaged by host first since he will not use heal just for you.

Killed a host trying to farm these guys for souls. Watching helplessly running away with SoA on and then one shotted him with R1 made me feel bad, it’s like putting down a stray dog. Moral of the story, never farm souls in my swamp as a human

Spending your first 20000 souls on crest is best investment in this game as any +5 weapon makes short work of them. You will get those souls, and many more back at a short time. The bandit dude tho, do not toy with hm :D

I take it that you can't use the Dark Hand on the Forest Hunters to steal easy humanity whilst soul farming?

Best soul farming spot in the game besides the Painted World. Grind for 20k souls to get Crest of Artorias, and make back that investment in like 10 minutes as you punt fools over the edge! Gamebreaking in my opinion.
