Chaos Blade is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.

A curved sword born from the soul of Quelaag, daughter of the Witch of Izalith, who was transformed into a chaos demon. This blade inherits only the chaotic nature of Quelaag, and has a unique speckled design. Blade wielder erodes along with opponents."

How to Get / Where to Find the Chaos Blade

Ascend a +10 katana with the Soul of Quelaag at the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo.

Upgrade cost:

Hints and Tips:

The one-handed Strong Attack is replaced by a dashing horizontal slash, and it eats 20 HP with every successful blow.

  • Give to Frampt to receive 1,000 souls.
  • You will take no self-damage while performing a backstab or a riposte.
  • Special: Damage scales with Humanity
  • Bleed build up is 36 per strike, and once inflicted will tear 30% of the opponents HP.
  • With 40 Dex and 10+ Humanity, Chaos Blade +5 has an attack value of 450.
  • With 50 Dex and 10+ Humanity, Chaos Blade +5 has an attack value of 455, proving how little of a difference in damage there is after 40 Dex.
  • Its length and vertical slashing motion make this weapon ideal for cutting off tails.
  • This weapon can not be enchanted with spells or items.
  • If using this weapon for a short period of time, Replenishment or Bountiful Sunlight are ideal to counteract the damage you take while striking.
  • Useful moveset (except strong attacks), fast swing speed and recovery with high attack rating and bleed make the chaos blade one of the best PvP weapons.
  • Ring of the Evil Eye and Replenishment can be used for mitigating the health loss.
  • Although it can do a thrust attack when pressing R1/RB while running, it won't receive a boost from
Leo's Ring, as it is not properly classified as a thrust weapon in game. Tested on patch 1.05 of PtDE.

Caution! With high Humanity and Dex it can dish out good damage, but it eats away at your Vitality with every successful blow (except back stabs and ripostes), and the R2 attacks are extremely slow. Be aware that you CAN die from using this blade - it will not stop draining your life regardless of your remaining HP.

I guess this is probably useless for PvE, right? I assume the constant health loss from fighting random mobs would add up until you have no Estus left.

Yeaahh the "uncontended best ultra pvp weapon" until y'know you try to chop some heavy slash-and-bleed-resistant armor or a greatshield (read - any trade build) with some goofy aah mallet

        • Anonymous

uncontested best weapon in PvP. 2nd longest range and highest damage out of the katanas. has the fast kick built in amazing running r1, good backstab damage strong r1 spam. kick -> r1 is a true combo and counters backstab fishing. used with dark wood grain ring r1 into roll away is absurdly safe. used with a mid setup is just as broken always win hit trades. (mid = mother mask full giants) 16 str and 45 dex is optimal allowing for pyromancies which are absurdly strong. weapon is ridiculous the downside of damage when hitting opponent doesn't even matter.

This thing having the same icon as the Uchi tricked my untrained eye for years, and I always thought it must just look similar to every other katana. Why did nobody ever mention how awesome this thing looks? The red-tinted blade goes so hard, it really does look cursed.

Oh, and the risk-reward factor of self-damage and needing humanity is awesome. And I love how this has the highest durability of all Katanas to compensate. And the moveset goes hard. I think I've fallen in love with this thing.

best PvP weapon in the game. this thing is just a beast with range and damage. very annoying to play against and very powerful

I think the Uchigatana is better than this sword.
The Chaos Blade deals roughly +30 physical damage more than the Uchigatana, but everytime you hit your opponent, you will receive 20 damage. So effectively you are dealing 10 more damage to your opponent, which is not really that good. You will get a slightly higher reach with the CB, but on the other hand it weights more and you need 2 points extra strength.

So I will stick with the Uchigatana.

Not everyone knows but Shiva of the East has unfinished quest chain similiar to Lautrec. We still have some hints and tips left:

                  1) After 3+ kills as Forest Hunter's member Alvina shares info that she don't trust Shiva and he may betray.
                  2) Shiva can be found later in Blighttown very close to Quelaag's Domain and near elevator required to exit swamp. This specific location is important.
                  3) Shiva admits that he collects unique weapons from his hunts (means he loots them from his victims since he and all forest hunters are technically bandits)
                  4) Shiva can sell us something from his collection and there are many eastern weapons like katanas.

So how the unfinished quest chain supposed to work?
After forging and having in inventory Chaos Blade (Quelaag Soul combined with +10 katana) and talking with him near Blighttown elevator Shiva should attack us with his bodyguard and take this weapon then dissapear. It's after all very unique katana something he would love to have in his collection. Since this act will be treason against forest hunters (as Alvina feared) we will have to find him and take revenge. Only trace of him will be Black Eye Orb (similiar to the one we find after Lautrec kills Anastacia) with shady decription saying that Shiva cannot be found anywhere (Lautrec eye was watching Anor Londo). Where he could be found then? In place that shouldn't exist where eye can't find him... The Painted World of Ariamis. There we will be able to use orb and invade Shiva and his bodyguard as vengeance spirit (blue phantom) and get Chaos Blade back similiar way as we invade Lautrec to retrive Anastacia's soul.

Shiva's Black Eye Orb actually exists in game files and you can get it by cheating. And it even works - you actually can invade Shiva in Painted World by using it. But it will break any interactions with him in Blighttown / Darkroot Forest and he won't drop anything in Painted World (as well as his bodyguard).

lifehunt scythe is an edgier, more manageable cursed weapon. You better check it out before you plan a masochist run with this

Do yourself a favour and just use regular Uhigatana+any buff resin/spell. No self-damage, better heavy attacks, less weight, less strenght required to wield. If you want big damage out of a dex build, grab a great scythe or murakumo.

can someone tell me something? i upgraded my chaos blade to +5 but the trophy called "Chaos Weapon" didn't appear. tips?

Plan to use this as a secondary just to cut off the tails and maybe for lightning resist enemies. Primary weapon is the great club for bosses or sometimes Zwei for basic enemies in difficult areas or crowd ctrl since tempest spell has limited use.

I just realised: the Chaos Blade may be the only boss soul item in the whole series, the origins of which are an absolute mystery. Most boss soul items are the weapons or spells used by the owners of the souls. Others may have connection (sometimes rather obscure, but a connection nevertheless) to their respective bosses. But the Chaos Blade is not used by Quelaag, nor is it connected to her in any way. It's just said, that it is "born from the soul of Quelaag, daughter of the Witch of Izalith", but it is not explained why and I can't think of any reason at all either.

Wootz has not been recreated. It was mainly distributed from the city of Damascus. It's what Valyrian steel is based on. Pattern well differs from Wootz or True Damascus Steel because of its distinct water pattern that you cannot achieve via pattern weld. Wootz however is more of a homogeneous steel versus a patterned weld.

The patterns on the blade would suggest it's made of Damascus steel. A real-life forging technique that is somewhat of a lost art.

Nice weapon. The self dmg isn't that bad. Nice for pvp as every bleed weapon.still playing it with SL 430 in NG ++

Wouldnt a decent amount of faith for extra heals and bountiful sunlight and/or paladin shield to make it good?

                                    • The chaos blade has a small but interesting niche against bosses. It deals the most raw damage out of every katana in DSR. Having 450 damage when fully upgraded, 10 humanity cap and at 40 dex. This katana can be monstrous to paired up with power within. Making it a very powerful katana that has a slightly longer reach than the uchigatana. However, it's heavy attacks has a long animation that makes you vulnerable, it also has to rely on having that humanity scaling cause without it, it'll be weak. Lastly, it damage the welder per hit unless you backstab or repost. Fortunately, these short comings can be fix. For example, the health lost can be mitigated from a constant recovery item (e.g: Elizabeth mushrooms).

If you break someones guard, you can get three R1s in before they can do anything. Only real use i've found is kicking somebody who is attempting to block while two-handing a weapon, and I think black flame might make you miss the third R1.

                                        • Anonymous

So when I look at the alternatives like Uchigatana and Iaito, which are mainly much easier to acquire and don't rob you of precious health with every hit, is there any rational reason to use this weapon in the first place?

                                          • This weapon can thrust if R1 is pressed while running. Might try out my self wearing Leo Ring to see if it receives a boost as well (probably not but worth a try).
I don't mind for the 20HP consumption per swing, just annoys me is that it has little staggering effect and i'm not used with that playstyle, but it is definitely a nice weapon to have in a dex build.

Noob question: does anyone here use this in conjunction with the red or blue tearstone rings? Just curious if "hyper mode" builds are viable in DS1?

Ya, I'm working with 120hp sooo... If there was a passive heal rate I'd do it. It's for high level builds. I enjoy tearing apart below 100 people.

                                                • Anonymous

At 46 dex and 10 humanity, I did 328 damage to a hollow warrior with a +5 chaos blade compared to 301 with a +15 uchigatana with the same conditions. So mixed with the self damage of the chaos blade and it's lack of a second damage type and inability to enchant it, it has very little use .

P.S: the blade is out of gold and titanium okay Now when I comment some bul*****I will just put 1 in front of my comments or sign in

I made my own style of the chaos blade or invented it, sketched it and colored it. Lemme give you people the details... two meters tall and twenty centimeters in inches. there are four parts of my sword. Note that it is also tall like this the other one. this might not be very realistic, but it has three parts: one is hilt, and rest is blade the hilt is three quarter of a meter and the blade is one meter and a half. The part you hold of the hilt is a quarter meter tall and the safety piece between the blade and hilt is twenty centimeters in width, and half a meter tall going down to the bottom of the blade a bit diagonally, and a quarter meter up diagonally towards the center. Whatever, I will just upload the image on Google. The hilt is polished gold, and the blades shape is a bit odd. Go on the internet and search fierce deity sword. It is a double helix sword. My blade is three times the bottomart of the blade, making the sword two different blades constantly getting farther then crossing. The left blade piece is blue, and the right is green and the sword blades are rigid-wish the colors overlap at the top. The sword could be hollow (to minimize weight), and is taller than an average man besides, I also made up a character to fit with this. He is under a robe hoodie whatever and is 2 meters tall and is only eighteen years and is an arch swordfighter and brawler, his name is... well a basic name for an arch fighter right? Archu (kind of pronounced like R2) (arch fighter-ish name I took month to choose hope you like a name never used EVER) Sorry is this did not interest you but thanks for reading. I will show the art of the sword on Google in the future. k bye

useless, considering a normal uchigatana has only 30 ar less than this at 40 dex and can be buffed+ has better strong attack. Nodachi has better range and similar ar. The fact that it damages the wielder is just LOL. It was op in dk2, where it can be buffed and has way more ar.
