Uchigatana is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
Katana forged in an Eastern land. Known for its brisk slashing motions."
"The Uchigatana cuts beautifully and causes bleeding, but its blade is easily nicked."
How to Get / Where to Find the Uchigatana
- Dropped by the Undead Merchant in the Undead Burg.
- Sold by Shiva of the East for 5,000 souls.
Notes:
- Give to Frampt to receive 50 souls.
- Bleed build up is 33 per strike, and once inflicted will tear 30% of the opponents HP.
- Resembles more of a tachi, as the blade seems longer than that found in most standard uchigatana.
- Demon's Souls version: Has the same appearance and move set, but has greater range than in Dark Souls.

Great weapon against low lvl twink invaders.
Most twinks invading at low levels have crappy vitality and endurance so bleeding weapon make short work of them.
Uchi has very low requirements. So grab it from undead's merchant body with rest of his unique stuff (except bottomless box, he won't drop it) and be ready. As soon as you see some dumb red twink hack him with R1 spam. He will bleed, cry and run to mommy leaving you humanity drop.

I was just trying a completely unmodified version of this out and I killed both the big lizards in Sen's Fortress lobby quite easily.
I think I'll make this my occult weapon (claymore is the other option I was trying)

I bounced off of Dark Souls multiple times across many years.
Picked up this thing for the first time recently
The game is piss-easy now
I think I'm gonna finish it this time

uchi or iaito i want to choose one for my dex character which one is better?
- Anonymous
I say get the first uchi from the undead merchant and infuse it with fire then buy another one from Shiva and upgrade it normally
Because applying resin can get u killed in a boss fight

Ok, I'd like to start a conversation about this weapon. Between Uchi vs. Iatio, I can argue that the Uchigatana is a *slightly* better choice in general. At pretty much any dex level, the Uchi has more AR for normal reinforcement, although barely much more at all. The lower dex requirement can win some people over too. But most importantly I think is the difference in the heavy attack and the damage type(s). The Uchi has a piercing attack, while the Iaito is limited to slash attacks. That piercing attack can mean the difference of having to switch to another weapon or not for certain enemies and player armors, and I think this is the Uchigatana's strongest attribute. However, I wouldn't shame anyone who chooses the Iaito over the Uchi, the overall advantage is under generalized conditions, and not by a terrible amount.

If you're doing a dex build, which is better, this or Balder side sword?
- Anonymous
Only thing that bothers me is the way character wears scabbard. Blade should be pointing up, like real samurai used to carry them.

Can you ascend a Fire Uchigatana to a Chaos Blade? I accidentally did that before finding out that the Fire Uchigatana doesn't give any boosts to it's damage from stats and I need to know if I wasted so much titanite...

"Demon's Souls version: Has the same appearance and move set..."
This isn't true. In Demon's, the 1H R1s are horizontal swings. The 2H R1 has a slower startup and uses more stamina. It's much more versatile in Demon's because of those horizontal, spammy swings. The 2H moveset is for slow hits that combo into push->R1 and hit like a truck.
