New Game+ Presentation
The initial or game cycle, created upon starting a new character, is called "New Game" or "NG". Upon killing the final boss, and choosing either ending, the player's character will be thrown into the next game-cycle, known as "New Game+", or "NG+".
If the player continues to play through and beat the game with that same character, the cycle continues, with the third cycle referred to as 'New Game++', or NG++, and so on. NG+ is a significant jump in difficulty from NG, but from NG+ to NG++ the difficulty will only increase slightly. Difficulty will continue to slowly grow with each game cycle, until it plateaus at NG++++++ (NG7/NG+6) and beyond.
Moving into a new game cycle such as NG+ will reset all killed Bosses and NPCs, just like it was in the first game-cycle. The difficulty will also increase, because enemies will have more attack power and health points, and they will yield more souls
- The next game-cycle will start back at the Northern Undead Asylum, with the player retaining all the gear and items they had at the end of the prior game (and all items in their Bottomless Box will also be kept).
- NG+ will not let the player create a new character or choose a new gift.
- On the first NG+ many enemies have doubled HP, and will also deal significantly increased damage. This becomes more and more noticeable the farther the player proceeds into NG+, and can be particularly challenging with respect to bosses.
- The more powerful foes often yield up to three or four times more souls than NG, including some bosses.
- Souls yielded in NG+ vary from one area to another, but it's usually a multiplier of 2x, 3x or 4x compared to NG.
- After NG+, enemy souls and HP increase with a static percentage of the NG+ values. NG++ increases 7%, NG+++ 10%, NG+4 14%, NG+5 19%, and finally NG+6 (7th playthrough) and onwards has a 25% increase in souls and HP over NG+.
To-do List before defeating Final Boss
- Visit all locations and kindle all bonfires to the max.
- Make sure you have obtained all unique items like Titanite Slabs from treasures around the world, and killed the various Crystal Lizards.
- Purchase all spells, miracles and pyromancies as they will carry over to the next game and may be stacked with multiple copies.
- Visit the blacksmiths and upgrade your weapons as much as you can, as you will lose all the embers at the start of the next New Game.
- Farm the Kiln of the First Flame Black Knights for materials: they consistently grant Titanite Chunks of various kinds and respawn. It is also recommended to farm the New Londo Ruins Darkwraith Knight for Titanite Slabs.
- Trade everything you can with Snuggly.
- Visit every merchant and buy items in preparation, as well as Humanity, Rings of Sacrifice, and Gravelord Eyes if you saved Patches the Hyena.
- Kill NPCs: You will get humanity, weapons, armor and Fire Keeper Souls. Besides, they will all revive for NG+.
- Killing any of the Fire Keepers will reset the Kindle on their respective fires in the next New Game.
- Killing Gwynevere will reset the chamber of the princess bonfire kindle.
What will carry over to NG+
- Most items and equipment will carry over, along with character Soul Level and Humanity, to the next game-cycle.
- Magic already obtained will also carry over.
- Current covenant membership and rank will carry over.
- Kindled Bonfires will retain their level.
- Estus Flask upgrade level will remain the same.
- All sins are absolved.
- Some Keys are kept:
- The Master Key will not be lost.
- The Bottomless Box will not be lost.
What doesn't carry over
- Most keys and key items will be gone.
- The Repair and Smithboxes will be gone.
- All the Embers have to be found again.
- The Covenant of Artorias Ring will be lost.
- The Orange Charred Ring will be lost.
- The Rite of Kindling will be lost.
- The Lordvessel, and its warping abilities, will be lost.
- Any costumes unlocked to purchase from Domnhall of Zena must be earned again. (with the exception of Great Lord Armor)
- Sin will be lost, so the new game starts sin free.
- All unlocked doors and shortcuts will close.
- The shortcut to Lost Izalith can still be opened if the player remains a Chaos Servant +2.
Other possible ramifications of NG+
- It is speculated by some players that progressing to NG+ or beyond (possibly all the way up to NG7/NG6) may eventually enable or unlock access to hidden material in the game, given that some objects or spells (such as the Great Lord Armor or the Sunlight Spear, or various different Boss Soul weapons each requiring the same boss soul) were apparently only intended to become available in subsequent game cycle playthroughs, and certain statements made by FromSoft game designers suggest multiple playthroughs might be required to unlock potential secrets related to the Pendant or other items. Despite extensive searching and effort by many players, to date these theories have not been validated.
- Optimally Ng++ is required for the Platinum trophy (up to Great Wolf Sif), because you need at least 3 Souls of Sif to make all 3 of Artorias' items: Greatshield of Artorias, Greatsword of Artorias and Greatsword of Artorias (Cursed). These weapons are required for the Knight's Honor trophy/achievement. Note: If you play online, you can receive a Soul of Sif as a gift, if another player drops it.

A question. I am trying to get the artorias sword, with the artorias soul, but I can't upgrade my weapon to +6 I already got the large ember, very large ember, divine ember, large divine amber, and gave them to andre but I can't upgrade my weapon to +6, I'm on my first NG+ and I don't know what to do.

Do the percentages stack? If you have a 25% increase does that mean that the next ng+ you will have a 25% increase of the previous ng+, or does it just add up?

Items exclusive to ng+ Gwyn's set, sunlight spear and his sword.

Ng+ in Dark Souls feels really challenging compared to Elden Ring's NG+.
Even trash mobs in the Undead Parish will kill me if I get too cocky.
I just beat O&S and I'm goofing around trying to get the platinum.

At the very start of NG+, in the Undead Asylum cell, can you homeward bone out of there to, for example, the Lordvessel altar, since that was my last bonfire rested at? And what if you don't collect the key off of the hollow that drops into the cell; can that drop despawn if you leave or quit or anything like that?

Aonde eu vejo marcado no jogo qual NG que eu estou no DS2 e na bonfire no DS1 eu nao sei.

Dose anyone else just never bother with ng+ for from games? I always just create a new character.

So what other hidden stuff i get in ng+ 7/6 other than sunlight spear and greatlord armor?

So, technically, you only have to kindle bonfires before ng+, if you don't want to rush Pinwheel once you reach Firelink Shrine, right? I mean, if you kill him early, you can just kindle all the Bonfires when reaching them in NG+.

Killing all the npcs before ng+ took a mental toll on me. Haven't done it before ng+2

I killed Gwyn (finally) and did the "Link the Fire" ending without knowing it would start NG+. I immediatly came to this page and regret pressing the "Link the Fire" button.
So here it says "Killing any of the Fire Keepers will reset the Kindle on their respective fires in the next New Game.
Killing Gwynevere will reset the chamber of the princess bonfire kindle."
However, I had all those bonfires kindled to the maximum (20 Estus), killed Gwynevere as well as the Fire Keeper in Anor Londo and the Daughter of Chaos, and still all three of those bonfires were kindled to the max level when I found them again in NG+. Seems like the bonfire kindling doesn't reset in the Remaster.

I read on a few other pages online that if you're a chaos servant +2, the ability to unlock the shortcut in lost izalith is lost and you need to eat 30 humanity every playthrough. On this page it says the contrary, i've always just chose to not risk it and simp the daughter of chaos each playthrough. Any thoughts? I myself dont plan on it anymore unless i want to save solaire again, but if someone else is skimming the comments it could be useful. (i've progressed to +5 where that titanite demon can just 1 shot me, better off just making do with the hidden bonfire unless i want to save solaire again.)

can someone help me find out which ng+ I’m on? I made a test and I gain 550 souls killing a basic hollow that would otherwise give me 100 souls in ng

I'm in NG+ and have reached Oolacile Township. I'm offline and hollow but I'm seeing increasing numbers of red phantom residents. Yesterday, there was just one red phantom sorceress that kept reappearing after resting at the bonfire, but today there are several red phantom bloatheads, one group in pairs. I promise, I am definitely offline. I've searched this wiki for an answer but haven't found any information about this. Is it just something that happens in NG+ versions? Thanks for any help.

Lets make this simple.. Exactly how many times do I need to kill Gwyn in order to start my new playthrough on the highest difficulty setting?

im lost the wiki's to do list says kindle all bonfires to the max but when you start an NG+ it will go back to 5 estus flasks

I'm a bit confused by the kindle every bonfire, but killing the Firekeepers will reset their kindle in NG+. Doesn't that mean kindling their bonfires is a waste of time if you plan to kill them? Am I misunderstanding something?

Do the blacksmiths still have embers given to them in NG ?

I think people should read the whole thing before commenting crap.He did mention than both Master key and Bottomless Box carry over to NG+.Also, covenant of Artorias and Orange Charred Ring are taken from the player in NG+,I just confirmed.

A lot of this information is old and was speculation due to players not knowing how thing operated fully during the days of when Dark Souls 1 was new. In short, in the Remaster, considering that's what people worry about the most, everything carries over its essentially the same as Dark Douls 2 and 3. Things like Key items of course don't carry over, and ironically the weapon & armor Upgrades don't carry over but the storage box does.

Thanks, doing my first ng+ run through, beat the game years ago but I never did a ng+ so this info is really helpful. Playing on xbox one

The gate beyond the boar that leads to the undead parish that you usually have to open from the other side will still be opened on new game + until you die after new game + ing

If I got it right then it works like this. I will put darkroot forest as an example.
- on new game the forest guardians yield 7000 soul per run
- on new game+ something like 30.000
- on new game ++ will they yield more than the previous number?? I mean... the souls enemies give increase with a new game cycle up to a total of 6

I'm on xone backwards compatibility and even tho I killed both firekeepers from lost izalith and anor londo, they're still kindled to 20 estus on my NG+ playthrough

I love speculating and secrets but that paragraph about multiple NGs potentially unlocking new things is a tad silly. The great lord armour for example is available in ng+ because they designed the game to force you into the next playthrough after beating gwyn which makes it impossible to go back to domhnall. Similar scenario with O & S, you can’t beat both in one playthrough so you need ng+ to get both armour sets. These are side effects of the games setup, they’re not put into ng+ for the sake of it so it’s only logical that if you reach right up to ng+6 there won’t be any hidden items because there’s no reason for there to be.

Is the ng+ 6/7 the cap of the additional health and boost to enemy? What special things do you or could you find in ng+7
- Anonymous
Really important, make sure you farm those blue drakes in front of new londo ruins, I find their drop rate is higher in ng rather than in any other subsequent plays. Plus they have lower health and you can pretty much one-hit with a maxed black knight axe or something with similar damage
- Anonymous
upvote this if you've beaten NG+6.
And pls don't downvote if you haven't.

One thing that is implied (but not specifically mentioned) in the NG+ checklist is that you can buy the master key from Domnhall of Zena. If you didn't start with it you don't really need to go through the Depths and upper Blighttown a second time (assuming you looted everything the first time).
Capra Demon and Gaping Dragon also don't drop boss souls, so as long as you cut off Gaping's tail on NG, you won't miss any equipment for the Knight's Honor achievement if you use the shortcut on the second run.
If you skip those areas you can be in Anor Londo again within like 2 hours of starting NG+, makes it a lot quicker to grind through the trophies.

Does the covenant ranking besides my current one reset after ng+? Like going to ng+ with the forest hunter will reset my +3 rankings of Darkwhraith and the Dragon remnants back to +0? Does killing Gwyndolin resets the ranking of the darkmoon blade back to +0? I was ranking +1, but I had to give him ALL the 80 souvenirs instead of Just 70 in the NG+, did the ranking reset as a penalty or it's because the counting ITSELF was resetted? Even If I was +1, +2 ranking, I have to give all the 80 covenant itens back to gain a rank after entering another NG cicle?

Is there a suggested level one should be before fighting Gwyn and going to NG+?
- Anonymous
I honestly will suggest into the "To-do List before defeating Final Boss" to farm the dark wraiths in the cavern before Manus Father of the Abyss (for who does have the DLC ofc) to farm humanity. Hell does guys carry a bunch of em, I farmed like 100+ points while trying to kill Manus with 0 efforts.

Do you have the option to stay and do extra stuff like in DS3? Or are you sent to NG+ right after the ending?

Do boss souls carry over to the new game plus ? Or do i need to decide what to do with them before finishing the game?

I killed two fire keepers(anor londo/chaos cov) for their souls before moving to ng+. Upon returning to these places, the bonfires were fully kindled. Same with the ones near Gwenevere and Gwyndolin, fully kindled. So as far as I can tell, all kindles carry over regardless.

Can players Invade/Summon other players in different NG cycles? Or is matchmaking restricted to players within the same NG cycle? (i.e. Can a player in NG+ invade a player in NG, so long as they are within their level-range and vice-versa?)

I'm at level 90-91 and I'm at Oreo and Smores for round 2 and I'm using a plus 5 bkh (black knight halberd) and I'm doing decent damage but I wanna know what's the best ng+ weapon
Basically NG should be your longest run. First of all because you start with no build and equipment. You need to fam humanity, soul level, collect gear, upgrate it, kindle bonfires and things like that. When it comes to farming items (titanite mainly) NG is best time since enemiest will be weakest so you can go for increased drop rate instead of damage or protection. So don't rush to the end. Take your time to collect everything you will need.
When you enter NG+ you already should have everything you need for your chosen build except unique things that need second copy and some stats that still left to level up. You will notice significant increase in enemy damage and health thus making farming items harder. Plus you may also be target of gravelord infection making this even more difficult. But when you have everything prepared and farmed you need only to pass every area picking stuff and killing things to gain more souls and missing items you need.
When you enter NG++ and beyond you should actually have complete character (maybe lacking some few things here and there). At this point you can stop progressing game and focus on PvP or go for challenge how high level you can get or how many times you could beat the game since with each run enemies will be stronger while your stats will become hard capped and futher leveling will offer only very small boosts. Remember thet getting to big soul level will cut you off from any form of online play since you will be out of level ranges for summoning and invasions. So around level 200-300 you will pretty much start to play solo with rare exceptions.
