Low requirements, good enough damage, good range and alright scaling for Int. Heavier than a normal spear, which does matter since sorcerers don't always have great equip loads, but in my run I didn't think it was all that big an issue. It's a good-looking weapon too. Also important to note that it does pure magic damage, so no split damage shenanigans. All in all, I say it's a good pick for a sidearm as a sorcerer. Not the best, but it's good.

+10 rapier doesn’t give option to make this weapon?? I’m literally at the Anor Londo cinnamon roll right now and he’s not giving me the option even though I have the Soul of the Moonlight Butterfly and a +10 rapier in my inventory… have I misunderstood?

At 12 str, 12 dex, 50 int this weapon at +5 does 337 damage vs 434 of a normal spear enchanted to +5.
And the Horn is 0.5 heavier than a normal spear.
And with a normal spear you can start working on your int weapon at the earliest in the game, converting it to magic+1 will give you a decent poker ASAP.
So aside from range the Horn is vastly inferior to a normal spear weapon... Not sure why they made it like this, but it is what it is.

Great PvE weapon I would say better than Moonlight Greatsword.
Use it to quickly and safely dispose enemies not worth wasting spells.
With 40-50 Int and +5 upgrade deals decent ammount pure magical damage.
But that's not all. It's also lightweight. And fast. And has really great range.
Very simple moveset reduced to long range poking with every move. No much thinking and strategy just keep your distance and poke, poke, poke to death.
Spam R1 to lock enemy in series of quick and long stabs or wait for opening and punish him with slower R2 thrust.
Not much more to say. Really nice and easy to use weapon in most areas even at NG+ and beyond.

One of my favorite weapons in the series for my mage, just wish it was in dark souls 3

Would this be a good choice for NG sorcerer run in mid level? Still need to get to Anor Londo to make this weapon though, and upon reaching Anor Londo U really get a lot of options. Is this spear good enough comparing to other weapons such as Velka rapier or just make some enchanted weapons?

great support weapon for MLGS. Get 13 dex on your int build for QFS and those three make a pretty dam good offensive core of weapons.

Pretty great weapon for PvP once upgraded - the pure magic damage tears through most shields

I was really surprised at how good this spear is (PVE). I recently decided to make a new dark sorceror build using the Manus catalyst and Large Club +15 40 STR 45 INT. The build I was following recommended this as a backup weapon but after I started using it became my main goto weapon for most fights. It's range is huge can attack while blocking and the th quick R1 with low stamina costs make it a great choice for a caster. I now use the Large club on certain larger and slower enemies but use this spear on nearly everything else.

Extremely good weapon for INT builds. If you have 12 strength and a good amount of int, give this one a shot.

Probably one of the better overlooked weapons in DS1/Remaster. It's hit box isn't as broken as the Demon's Spear, but it's really close. Spears on thier own are just amazing at keeping backstab fisher's at bay by being really freaking long and relatively quick. This weapon just pairs well with Dark Bead (Dark Bead is broken on it's own) by being a long range intelligence scaling weapon where darkbead is a point blank kick to the balls. Like clock work, after a few pokes with this people will realize that you out space every weapon except 2 in the entire game. So what can they do but roll towards you? Even with zero dexterity, you can start casting a dark bead and catch them coming out of thier roll. It's mindlessly easy to rack up PvP kills: Poke, poke, darkbead, enjoy your loading screen, gg. Great weapon, if you want to escape the backstab oriented combat and go for the next most broken playstyle.

this spear is not bad, it have one of the largest ranges in spears and his magic damage is decent, but like the moonlight greatsword it only have magic damage, so you are completely neked agains enemies with magic barrier

The shield is pretty good for being the only sheild that does magic damage but it can’t parry.
I mean, it's not a matter of WHICH one to make, in my opinion both the butterfly's soul items are terrible... But you need both for the trophy. I would honestly rather just have the 8000 souls then either of these trash

Deconstruct the lightning spear you get from Sens fortrace for a +10 spear.

If you're doing an INT-Build, this spear is a good (poor man's?) substitute until you get the Moonlight Great Sword. Or if you failed to cut off Seath's tail on your first playthrough. For one thing, you can get the Soul of the Butterfly much sooner and spears are purchaseable from the Undead Merchant (male). You still have to make it to Anor Londo, though and the Sword is available shortly after defeating Smough and Ornstein. The Horn being a spear has the advantage of being safer to use, as you can raise your shield and attack at the same time. This can be useful if your character is a bit more squishy. The Horn also has lower requirements with 12 STR and 14 INT. The Sword requires 16 STR, 10 DEX and 28 INT. Obviously, if you're not doing an INT-build, go for the shield.

Titanite catch pole is far better int weapon than this, -42 magic damage at 40 int but +226 physical at min requirements, the downside is that it is a very rare drop
