Ornstein's Set is an Armor Set in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
Ornstein's Set Information
Armor of the dragonslayer Ornstein, who guards the cathedral in the forsaken city of Anor Londo. Ornstein is believed to be the captain of the Four Knights.
His golden lion helm is imbued with the power of lightning and should provide good protection against it.
Location
- Purchased from Domhnall of Zena (27,000 Souls total) after defeating Ornstein and Smough. During the boss fight, defeat Smough first, then defeat empowered Ornstein. If you kill Ornstein first, Domhnall will sell Smough's armor instead.
Notes
- Ornstein's Set cannot be upgraded.
- Ornstein's Helm, Ornstein's Armor (chestpiece) and Ornstein's Gauntlets each reduce Stamina regeneration by 1 per second (3 for full set).
Lore
- Ornstein was named after the composer Leo Ornstein.
- Ornstein reappeared as The Old Dragonslayer in DS2.
- The armor set of Ornstein was later rediscovered at Archdragon Peak in DS3.

does anyone else find killing smough first to be way easier?

first play through killed Ornstein, second play through killed Smough first finally I can be both biggie and smalls

Killing Smough first is definitely harder but the set looks cool and the weapon is decent. Just wish they added the plume to the helmet

I kill smough, then ornstein. But I used power within spell and it killed me before I got the armor. Lost the set forever. I am soo sad.
ah yes finally i can cosplay as Jonathan banks from the lion king

killing smough then ornstein doubles the difficulty to this fight but its worth it

i like to imagine every time i use estus with this armor it's like a video of a cat drinking water from a glass

Took me 5 hours in prepare to die to kill ornstein last. What i did was just charge smough and roll towards his attacks. Then hack away with a quelaags furysword i was double handing. Same technique for giant ornstein just avoid being directly under him so he wont use that butt slam with lightning.

I'll never un-see Ornstein doing the Channeler Trident dance.

Worse weight/resistance/defence ratio than Elite Knight set and slows down stamina regen.

all this mentions is that, "If you kill Ornstein first, Domhnall will sell Smough's armor instead". where it implies that you will not receive the armor post battle, it is not actually stated that you have to purchase whichever set you are allowed depending on the battle's outcome.

For those who want the plume nexusmods com/darksouls/mods/1635

Thief Mask pairs well with the set if you also happen to think the helmet looks dumb

Need to add that Ornstein's Helm, Armor, and Leggings all cause a minor reduction in stamina regen (each)

Coolest armor in suvh a light weight, after Ninja set(shadow set) and sealer set (red one from wheels in Blighttown) this is my favorite now

I assume Ornstein was going to be a samurai, with how much the armor fits without the stupid helmet.

Not as protective as I would have thought. the Lightening defence is pretty bad, although the wiki could be wrong?
- Anonymous
It's been said but yeah, no plume. Sucks. Yeah bring on the downvotes I'm criticizing the remaster.
But admit it, you wanted the plume too.
- Anonymous
No plume in the remaster nice. Classic as always Dark souls 1 in 60 FPS. AND almost without ANY changes, cause this games was perfectly balanced right ?

For some reason, my armor is dull grey, and not golden. Is this normal? Isn't it supposed to be golden?
- Anonymous
I think this armor is really great even though it is difficult to get
Unlike Smough set, which is actually one of the best sets for phys and elemental defense overall, beating even Giant's when it comes to lightning, while still being unupgradable, this set is kinda shoddy and excels at nothing except maybe fashion, a shame really
