Stone Greatshield is a Greatshield in Dark Souls. Used by the Stone Knight, the guardian of the Darkroot Garden, this moss-covered, round greatshield offers substantial protection. Greatshields can be used not only to block an enemy but to parry their attack as well. This allows a riposte, a free attack by the player for a high amount of damage. Enemy attacks can be interrupted with a parry (pressing the Strong Attack button for the shield) and requires practice to learn the timing. Extremely heavy shields that remove the option of parrying in favor of a shield bash, whilst also providing the best deflection capabilities of any category.

"The Stone Knight is a creation of ancient magic, and this shield is imbued with the same power, but is also extremely heavy."

Stone Greatshield Hints and Tips in Dark Souls
- A really big and stable round shield, but heavier than a mountain.
- Upgrades only increase the bashing damage by a smidge.
- The fantastic magic resistance (tied for 2nd place with the Crest Shield and the Cleansing Greatshield) makes it a boon for Str 26 characters shaping up to face the Moonlight Butterfly. Just weather its salvoes while two-handing the shield and switch to a proper weapon when it comes down to feed.

Magic is rare but arguably the nastiest of the 3 enemy elemental types, so the high damage reduction paired with that Stability is a godsend.
It's also a Twink so you can max it out right away! If you're a Strength build this is well worth grabbing.
But if you want to fast roll grab either Eagle Shield or Tower Shield instead, 20 load weight is pretty absurd for a Shield, even for builds with high End.

800hrs finally ran into this beauty. Human with 4 popped humanities right after killing hydra and going to get the wolf ring, ambushed from behind a stone giant appeared and dropped it .

This is the worst farming in DS1. Got the highest item discovery possible, keep getting Stone Greatswords but not a single Stone Greatshield. Starting to think it's intentional

trying to get this to drop but all i get is the sword. i am not hollowing. i have become THE hollowing.
Best item ever, I just level stamina and press the block button and nothing can hit me, I can even block Smough's hammer ram attack. Equip the SGS and some club with good STR scaling and breeze through the game by baiting attacks on your shield. Extra fun if you equipo the Xanthous crown and smough's hammer for maxium cluttering.

I mean, it makes sense that this is just havel’s but no special ability and a little less extreme. Still, it’d be nice if this had a bit more lightning resist and maybe more stability so it could stand next to havel’s as a proper side-grade and not just “early-game havel’s”
