Does it have a large AOE similar to DS2 and DS3 or do the host/phantoms need to be directly next to you to benefit? Without the ability to hold the spell charge it seems like it would be very difficult to use successfully without a large AOE or through group coordination with a mic.

So with the requirement of 48 faith, and with a good talisman, you can heal 1200+ hp per cast. With ring of the sun princess, apparently that jumps to being 1500+, which is functionally a full heal for most players.

Bountiful Sunlight is a little iffier because it counts as a self buff, which can mess up hosts who cast Great Magic Barrier or Power Within, or who use items like Green Blossoms. So it's not especially useful for boss fights. But it can be good to use in areas with long drops or before facing a large group of enemies.

But Soothing Sunlight is ALWAYS a great spell to use as a summon, I highly recommend it for online play.

The biggest struggle with it is getting the host to understand that you can heal them. I've found what works best is to stand somewhere where they can't get past you, like a narrow hallway or the opening of a door, and to cast it as they're trying to get past you. Another good way to heal them is to position yourself right behind them when they're running up to a weak enemy, and then cast. Usually it will finish casting just before the weak enemy has died.

After healing them once, they usually figure it out and will try to get closer to you if they notice you casting it. It is also a very good spell to use if fighting with a host on narrow ground (Depths, Anor Londo rafters, Tomb of Giants, etc), since only one person can be hitting with melee, you can sit back and heal if the host get*****.

For offline play, Great Heal is better because it takes 1 attunement slot--but if you have 4 slots you can use Soothing Sunlight, Great Heal and Great Lightning Spear--effectively giving yourself twice as many casts of Great Heal.
