Murakumo is a Weapon in Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered.
Giant curved sword forged using special methods in an Eastern Land. This unparalleled weapon cuts like a Katana but is heavier than a Nata machete. Requires extreme strength, dexterity, and stamina to wield."
How to Get / Where to Find the Murakumo
- Killing Shiva of the East.
- Rare drop from the Giant Skeletons in Firelink Shrine and the Tomb of the Giants.
Notes about Murakumo
- Give to Frampt to receive 50 souls.
- The heaviest Curved Greatsword.
- Primarily scales with Dexterity.
- Due to its blade length and relatively fast speed, the offhand horizontal sweep is surprisingly handy for dual wielding builds.

I love this weapon, in Dark Souls2 SOTFS it's my primary weapon. And at +15 lightning one-handed, it's fast, strong, and great.

28 str for E str scalling and 13 dex for B dex scalling?
Better stick with lighting/chaos path.

Feels like a quality weapon imo, you have to sacrifice a lot of stat points for even 21 strength just to be able to two hand it, plus a B scaling isn't that high

This is one of the weapons outside of the black knight set ups that can bring pain at game start to op bros with 99 soft humanity and max armor at gargoyles. Don’t forget to get the hornet ring to bust a crit on that azz.
- Anonymous
If you’re a warrior, you can two hand this at the parish with just 19 strength. For extra fun, grab the hornet ring. Lure the dnd boys over the cliff and join the club. To make sure you get it, upload your save before kicking the ninja off a and taking out Shiva. He chased me over a cliff and it was there with the ninja ring and his shield.

One of my favorite dex weapons for sure. Has a good moveset, good speed and fantastic damage. Barely anything in the game that it won't kill in no time. Only downside is the 20 str required to 2H, definitely pick this thing up if you want a heavy weapon for dex builds.

Anyone know what this weapon is called in real life? if it even exists that is.
PVP it's a Top Notch weapon for sure among the best of the best. It is a Greatsword so deals a massive amount of damage and it also has a "B" Dex scaling so it's a great DEX weapon too. The simple slash R1 attack is a tiny bit clumsy-slow , but not too bad (that makes it parry-able... but the damage output is so high that if you fail the parry you get punish, so is kind of dangerous to attempt a parry against the murakumo, still doable of course) , it's an excellent weapon for dealing and learning Dead Angles (probably one of the bests for this) It's absolute great when you go unlock, so Lock/unlock play is a must when you are using the Murakumo (this is probably the reason why you see so many Havel Moms wielding a Murakumo) The rest of the move set is quite balanced (nothing is bad) and it has a BEAST attack: the One Handed running attack (probably the best running attack in the game , or perhaps only behind Katanas running attack).
That said, I've never enjoyed playing with a Murakumo. I can see it's great, and I can see what other players can do with it but I've never had any fun with a Murakumo... Well , you gotta keep trying

Just got 2 murakumo on one playthrough. I have 28 str and 40 Dex for my +15 claymore. Considering dual wielding with lighting
- Anonymous
By the time you can one-hand it, you're already running a quality build, so I'd imagine this is meant for two hands on a dex build

I played this game more than 100 times, its the first i get a Murakumo on a giant skeleton from downstairs. What a feeling ! Going full upgrade <3
- Anonymous
It shares the same name as an Xbox game made by fromsoftware Murakumo: renegade mech pursuit.

It’s sad that these weapons are only used for very high damaging backstabs in PvP. I get that it’s a lot of fun to fish for a bs but there’re so many good things going for this weapon other than high crits.

Hits hard and fast for a heavy great curved sword
(30str-40dex) Im on ng+ now and killed bridge wyvern with this beast it gave 50 000 souls nice
Shame they didn't lower str requirement in remaster. 20 would be nice.
- Anonymous
Requires 28STR and has E scaling with it. Not worth it imo.
- Anonymous
Lol i started to play ds1 for the first time and this weapon was my first drop on the cementary killing a giant skeleton
- Anonymous
+15 with 28 strength and 40 dexterity gives you 282 + 282 pure physical damage whereas +5 lightning with base stats gives you 282 + 282 physical + lightning! I know split damage equals less dealt to an enemy but this can even be overwritten by the fact you can engage in lower level PvP. I’m shocked by how strong infusions are in this game.
Amazing weapon, one of the best in the game. Only problem is the weight and insane stat requirement(combined with poor STR scaling for it). You basically need a quality build to use it, and there are better weapons for that, like the Abyss Greatsword(which also doesn't have sh*tty slash damage) Very niche.

I arrived at the shrine and delved into farming this thing after looting the Zweihander. The rate is so low I fully expect to run out of durability before I get it which will result in a trip to the merchant for the repair box.

I have to take a long break from the series because I got fat and play too much to sort myself out but if I eventually return the first thing I’ll do is make a character solely for this weapon. The Murakumo and more specifically this version remains my favourite weapon in the Souls series excluding Bloodborne.

Would the most optimal way to farm this early game be to progress to the parish for the drake sword and take the elevator back to the shrine to begin? I know those skeletons are tough as **** right after reaching Lordran which would result in a hopeless farming session unless there’s other early game tricks to killing them that I’m not aware of, could anyone provide insight on this?
- Anonymous
You can squeez most of the damage from crystal because magicdmg dealing weapons eats ass in this game against bosses but guess what crystal weapons sucks! WHY? WHY MIYAZAKI?? WHY WOULD YOU MAKE IT NOT REPAIRABLE???
- Anonymous
I was prepared to grind to get this thing, I went to where the skeletons are in firelink with 410 as item discovery and got it first try. Luck must have been on my side.
- Anonymous
All right you angry hateful nerd, if you don't like something don't reply rather than spew poisonous bile.
- Anonymous
the name of the sword is a reference to the Murakumo Millenium corporation in Arnored Core 1
The drop rate for this thing must be quite low. Been farming for an hour with 410 item-discovery and still no luck. In fact not once have the big skellies dropped anything.

At 28/45 (or 40 for non pyros), the crystal kumo is a monster, best pvp weapon in PTDE. Pros : Really good moveset; Very high damage output; Stunlocks; Dead angle/Ghost strike machine; Unparryable running R1s, Fast recovery after R1s. Cons : First R1 is slow; Range could be better; Easy to toggle on sight even on bad latency.
